Well, it's been chaos since January/february as we try and decide about moving house.
It's now 95% certain that we'll be moving to the Isle of Lewis within the next few weeks, from our inner city semi detached house on a typical English housing estate.

Anyone interested can look at the following links and decide if our quality of life will be better

Click to enter the site, select Gallery from the menu and look at Lewis & Harris. We will probably move to Lewis within the next few weeks

i've always dreamt of living in a light house, looking over a norwegian fjord.

this looks equally tempting.

Spirit,
The chain of islands known as the Outer Hebrides has a population of 27000.
The main town is Stornoway, 10 miles south of where we're hoping to buy 2 properties in a week or so's time. The population of Stornaway is about 7000, similar to the housing etstate we live on in Stoke.
The village we're trying to buy is called Shulishader - there are 2 pictures of it in the alphabetical listing link. The village has less houses than the street we currently live in.

Do we know anyone there?
We've been in touch with a builder and his wife (we have a chance of having houses built for us by him too)since December of last year. We nearly bought a new bungalow off him in January but the timing wasn't quite right due to bereavements back home.
The other people we are in touch with are the ones who DID buy the bungalow and they're great too. They've been there 3 months now and said they'll never come back.

Basically we can sell our semi-detached house, with 3 smallish bedrooms, get out of the squalor of this city (voted the worst in Great Britain last year) and buy a 5 bedroom detached house up there with land attached.
We can also pay all our solicitors and moving costs etc and still come out of it with a profit.

Borg - this is our biggest opportunity yet and has taken a lot of consideration - please don't buy the house we're after
I'll look for a lighthouse for you once we've moved in.
Having said that - what would your end-product tracks sound like if they were mixed and mastered in "a chimney" ????

Stardust - there'll be plenty time for contemplation because the weather is ..... 3 seasons in a day, sometimes in an hour. But the culture and the people are wonderful.
As they say in Norway - there is no such thing as the wrong weather - only the wrong clothing.

Huub - We'll need those curtains - it rarley goes dark in summer.

I think that the place you are in is very important, as it will determin the way you live your life. In such a place, I think, you'll never miss inspiration for your compositions for instance. Health is also a factor, as cleaner air is a better life too. Less people is also a release of tention, as the more people, the more tention the city has. I think you cannot mistake with such an amazing place. Best for your all

a place with a lot of character - one can almost feel the wind and smell the salt from the sea by viewing those pics
congrats for finding it and best wishes for the ongoing deal.
Will you be focussing your sportive activities on the water side or take the wind as a new challenge on the bike ?

cheers , Tom

Wow, beautiful!

Felix Mendelssohn was inspired by the area, could work for you, too, Neil

Thanks for the replies and comments again.
Nestor - anything that can give me some inspiration at the moment would be a big help
even better would be something that would give me the TIME. At least they have a lot of rain so I would have more time for music (although walking along golden beaches in a storm has a lot of appeal too)

Astroman - I'll be sticking to the mountain biking as I cannot swim. Lots of hill walking too. Considering putting a sail on the bike so I can make use of the winds up there.

Huub - do you think that getting salt in the card will give a dirtier, distorted feel to the music???

Wayne - the thing about Mendelssohn though was that he had natural talent
Sure, lots of inspiration out there - anyone got any patches for sea sounds

Seriously, the amount of stress involved in taking this life-changing move and leaving family and friends behind is causing a lot of sleepless nights, but we're 99% certain that it's going to happen now.
I'll just be glad when it's all over and I can switch my trusty music pc on again.
