Question... I've only played with plasma a little bit and noticed a strange aspect to the program. It seems as though you can select multiple voices, yet I can only figure out how to use one drum tone at a time? Haven't checked my DSP meter yet, but my question is, is it possible to squeeze multiple tones out of one plasma, or do you have to open up multiple units (hence people wanting to use samples)?
CONTEST [gossip thread]
Okay, I'm a big dumbass. I was playing with the VoxDrum and NOT the plasma, I just couldn't see far enough out of my own ass to read the name of the synth. Sorry for the mix-up!

Peopz keep asking me via email and here if it is cool to use vocals and such. I don't see a problem with a vocal, guitar OR handdrum track to accompany the synths, but keep in mind the intent of the project - using limited synthesis. A vocal or percussion element seems OK to me, but it should not be overpowering the "real" part of the track. What does everyone think?
I was going along the assumption that "if it's not mentioned in the rules, it's not allowed". Obviously I'm not as legally savvy as Sir Sam
I personally think this contest is much more interesting if it's kept strictly to the 3 synths plus SFP FX. If we're going to have a new contest every couple of months (and I really hope we do!) then wouldn't it be a good idea to save other configurations/limitations for the future? Otherwise all the contests will end up very similar to each other and it will get boring. Just a thought

Algo, what a goooooooooood idea you had! It’s really great! I’m so glad people is getting into it, I didn’t answer yet cos I was too busy, I hope I can participate to on this one in a few days.
I think it is important to be ruled, so I too prefer to have strict norms, nothing but what you say to use. This is precisely, the fun of it, to be limited and all using the same instruments, cos we are going to see what we can do with the same thing. If you don’t pronounced it, it’s not allow. I think no voices, nor guitar or anything else should be included, just the virtual instruments already mentioned by you.

BTW Algo:
I thought we could divide the prize into three different specific qualities:
First Prize
To the best musical arrangement.
First Prize
to the most innovative use of the instruments.
First Prize
To the better sounding song.
The First Prize to the best musical arrangement, would be all about music and musicality and would be the most important prize of them all. The second would be to the most innovative use of the instruments, creativity in using different presents, FXs with those presets, etc. Finally, the less important of the three prizes would be to the better sounding song.
The winner of the First Prize to be best musical arrangement, could be the next one deciding which instruments are we going to use for the next competition, and so on.
If a song has two or even the three characteristics, which is very difficult for it to happen, the winner would have reached the category of ABSOLUTE WINNER.
What do you all think about that? I think it’s logical and nice.

well, I like the categories, but I think I would reverse their order of importance - I think the best sounding music is most important, followed by innovation, followed by musicianship.
They don't need to be ranked hierarchially though. we could just leave them as 3 'best' - because they are in different areas. I also think there should be a "most distinctly pulsar" category . . .

Sound quality before musicianship? Well why not I’m open to experiment. But I still think musicianship is far more important than any reachable sound quality, particularly if you think that there will always be people having different possibilities cos of money, some recording at 32 bits, others at 24 bits and some others at just 16 traditional bits.
I think musicianship is always more important than anything else cos even not having a pulsar or with just a guitar at hand you can still be a great musician. Creativity first.

Agreed with nestor...Musicianship first...
OR
Really 3 differrent categories not linked whatsoever, but since it is a small contest, with really no prizes, and the first goal was to display pulsar capabilities, the 'most pulsar like category' or something like that kinda appeal to me.
BTW, here's some photos of a show i made in Paris for the 'music day' on the 21st of June 2000 :
