I have had a quick browse through related threads but none resolved my problem.

I have recently purchased an A-16 AD/DA converter.

With NOTHING ELSE CONNECTED in the routing window, when I connect the ADAT source to the mixer within Pulsar2, I get a loud static - intense white noise with a high pitched ring/modulation - on the connected channel. The input meters, of course, go way into the red.

This occurs REGARDLESS of whether the the A-16 is connected to the Pulsar2 card, or not. ( This connection is via light-pipe ) So it appears not directly related to the A-16 but appears more of an issue within Pulsar.

A few other observations:

- all lights on the A-16 are green - even during the "static"
- it occurs in either Master/Slave configuration
- THERE ARE NO RED LIGHTS DISPLAYED routing window ( in Pulsar ) suggesting no ADAT connection but the A-16 appears to be talking to Pulsar because the sample rate changes within the Sample Rate window ( in Puslar ) when I change the sample rate on the A-16.
- the A-16 performed properly on another PC when I took it back to the store to try to work out this problem.
- I de/re-installed Pulsar 3.1a ( including re-installing the drivers )

I believe this is not directly related to the A-16 - but I am absolutely confused as to its cause as it does suggest an issue within Pulsar.

System:

933 p3, 512, w98SE, Pulsar 3.1a, Sonar XL 2.0, matrox G550

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks

your SURE you have it connected properly and have master <-> slave straight?
tried other ADAT cables?
Tried another ADAT-capable unit (e.g. another mixer, etc.)?

just a few suggestions. not trying to insult your intelligence or anything.

no insult taken

yep, am sure it is connected properly and it is the same ADAT cabling used by the music store.

But, as I explained, the noise occurs regardless of whether the A-16 is connected or not - it occurrs when I connect the virtual cables from ADAT SOURCE to MIXER.

UPDATE:

problem solved. it was faulty PULSAR2 card - and thanks to the excellent after-sales service of my equipment supplier, it was promptly fixed.

Says something for being a loyal customer !

Now, i have a beautiful A-16 Ultra as part of the family.

cheers
