SDK as music creation software?

Post by fra77x »

Hello and wishes for a happy new year

Well, i was wondering why sonic-core doesn't promotes equally the SDK. It's the most superb software out there. To be honest i use the sdk for my music for years. With Xite-1 my dream has come true, i can have a whole production in midi and "in the box". SDK is stable as nothing. Users most of the time think that the sdk is "too complicated", "for the developers", but my opinion is that anyone that likes electronic music, production etc and have an interest for modular synthesis is quite capable to use the sdk.

SDK is excellent, it offers anything one can imagine. For an example the async modules that the modular misses, one can create almost anything with these. It needs a lot of experience but it pays back because you have ultimate control and you don't rely on anyone. Some guys will call you a developer also... but you are just an electronic musician that knows what he is doing and don't get afraid from the voices that tells him to just buy a good rompler or find good samples. And who designs the samples by the way?
It is exactly the same situation when someone goes to modular synthesis. Knowledge and satisfaction from knowledge. Because knowledge pays back. And it's also fun to aquire it -the trip to knowledge- because it's the most honest thing.

You don't have to design full devices. You can work straight ahead in a modular style with the provided modules that are absolutely fine by my experience. One of the best things is that you can fold several atoms together and save display space.

I upload here a pic from my current music writing and production project (psy trance). As you can see it's in 96kHz, and i have 19 monophonic instruments, plus some production (there is also "folded" production with the synths), recording stuff and i'm in the middle of Xite's dsp resources. (and in the middle of the track). I use Logic 5.5 through Oracle's virtual box as a midi sequencer, and Reaper (unlicenced) as a sampler for percusion. (samplers not working in sdk).
I always record at VDAT i have not found anything that reaches it's sound.
My system is 32bit in a laptop and these days i never use my old scope system with 21 old dsp's because i hate the noise from the machine. I want a peaceful and quiet environment to work properly and i don't need the extra power...

Xite-1 is the best instrument EVER.

Anyway here the pic and best wishes again to all,
John

Setting time aside for the SDK is my new year's resolution ;)

I have a acoustic piano at home, I do not even tune the strings, because I concentrate on playing the instrument. Same here, I use scope for musicproduction, I do not tune the software. AND Im not an electronic musican.

I do not have the time for sdk, but if you dont play music, you can conentrate on programming, this is ok.

Everybody goes his own way. SDK is to complicated for my way.
 out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio  music first!

that attitude is counter-productive. if it's too complicated, just use someone else's studio.
a music studio requires a certain amount of engineering skill, either from the owner or someone the owner employs. without that, it's crap, just like an untuned piano becomes crap eventually.

nothing in life is free. even breathing requires energy.

Gary, Anabella is right, knowing how to share your time is a valuable skill... (between planetz, physical exercises and stuff, the last half an hour of the day left, should be devoted to piano...).
Everything must happen before our worst enemy appears: The nusty grey hair.
:-)

ps. Gary what is that support for hyper production? Have you had a haircut? Have you suffered brainwashing?

I have to go for some vacation someday and somehow... before 2022.

I think I will do the same as I grow weary of certain features and want to customize this like I have with Reaper and Bidule.
Besides I am making close to the same mony just doing 3 nights instead of 6 now, on my nights off I reherse with other players and record ideas for later uses I hope.
I think the SDK is the amswer for me too.

I shall search the ftp now.

Edit: Can't find it, where can I get SDK 6 or whatever number the commoners are allowed.?

@ Gary ;-) That makes sense...

Well i'm thinking to offer to anyone who is interested a complete sdk coverage through Skype. 20euro the lesson, 5 lessons in total.
All the shortcuts, procedures and stuff packed. Contact me at amolohitis@gmail.com

Sdk 6 won't run with registered devices, sdk 5 is fine, but has random crashes with some modular patches and some devices and also it's not optimized for screensets, another problem with sdk is that it can't manage dsp assignments on protected devices(you must fold a device to accomplish it), so i prefer using sdk for packing devices and scope 5.1 for production.
Also the module protection bug on sdk5 forced me to use 2 different installations, one that works with all modules to be used for developing and one that is able to protect devices, but that is unable to open everything.
The folding option of scope sdk is the tool that scope 5.1 is missing.

Ankyu. Ready to put everything I use into 2 x BCM Shells.
One for Sources, the other for Destinations, and everything can re recalled
via Screensets.
That is my first goal.....
2nd goal...........The World.

FWIW Should I remove the pep.dll patch protect thingy...?
I wish to have a functioning SDK and have no clue what
I would do if there are so many work arounds I am unaware of.

So is it best to have old SDK, then another install of 5.1 x64 for the XITE-1...?

sdk 5 at the moment is the one to go for the xite.

Only problem is the protection bug, so if you need to develop devices to be protected, then you need to apply the "view protection patch" from here:

ftp://ftp.sonic-core.net/software/scope ... 0patch.zip

wich contains a file called PepBasic.dll to be placed inside App\Bin\PepBase

and also to let it work, you must delete a file called "PepBase.idx" (it will be re-generated after scope sdk starts).

The problem with this is that scope sdk will run into error popups and will not be able to run all devices, so my suggestion is:

install scope sdk (this is your main functional sdk installation)

copy the sdk folder and rename it, then apply the patch and use it only when you have devices to be protected.

Better solutions are welcome if someone discovered it

also sdk 6 is useful if you want to export some dsp as device and then use it on sdk 5.

jksuperstar has the right idea.
We need to evolve into a forum of SDK tweakers, and it appears we have a few here already that can speed the learning process up immensely.

Just wanted to tell in case I forgot, way back in Scope 3.1 days remember you fixed the B2003 MIDI CC thing for me...?
Someone at S|C noticed this and fixed it thanks to you....

Cheerz.
