Thanks Nestor. I found a keylogger! I wonder if my gf planted this. It seems like something she would do, then again I heard that commercial key logging software is being used by hackers because a lot of programs don't search for them.

For those who want to have their PC truly clean of spyware, there is no better software than Acronis Privacy Expert.
You must have used the drive cleaner. I looked at that and thought it must be dangerous. I think you would use that to wipe out boot sector viruses.
The commercial key loggers such as "codename alvin" are sold under the pretense that they would be used to spy on your children. Common sense would tell you that children are not who they are most commonly used on. I don't feel it's ethical to spy on your children anyway. I know people would disagree with that. I'm not a parent.

Was very amused to read today in a leadinng economic newspaper here, that most commonly used commercial software does a very bad job at keepinng your PC clean. The Norton package even removed 1 out of 50+ evil programs
McAffee and the lot didn't do much better.
Another thingie: Windows firewall, as any other I've seen, (ZA, TPF,..) recognises at most 3 protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP. But do you also know about the 150 other protocols that your firewall does not know about?
M$ announced their anti-spyware. IMHO the whole OS is spyware, especially if you don't know how to set it up properly. Glad they admit it now tho
Maybe the kids in MS office could concentrate a bit more on make their OS fool proof, instead of studying how they can make more $ on patents.
King of Snake, http://www.grc.com was my favorite security website, untill I put my web machine on linux and all that spy/tracking crap is history now. I do realise if somebody wants to get to my machine, they will.
A lock on the door doesn't prevent the burglar from breaking the windows eh. It just makes it harder for the occasional passant to get in.

And the joke is that you can get Linux with basic apps for FREE. And they'll send you 10 CD's to distribute to your friends. I'm waiting on mine as I write.

However those are protocols that Windows does not understand and responds to. (also, one needs to add a specific protocol support for a given ethernet card, in the card's system properties)On 2005-05-12 22:48, at0m wrote:

I think they should concentrate on optimizing it and speeding it up. At start up, load only modules and services that you want not a gazillion services and drivers that one never uses.Maybe the kids in MS office could concentrate a bit more on make their OS fool proof, instead of studying how they can make more $ on patents.
