Just came back from my local net cafe...ADSL.... Was chatting to the lady who runs/owns/cleans the place. She's constantly hit by hackers. She believes some of the competition want to close her down. I must be naive. She's a tiny operation.....

Must be a serious jungle out there when there are big $$ at stake.......

Or she does not understand the messages she gets by her firewall. She would not be the first person to feel threatened by harmless activity.

Dunno...the cafe is Linux based. I assumed she had some programming background, as she spoke of how Linux "used to be". She said it was very difficult to locate small data packets once they were in. So she ended up doing regular reinstalls. Maybe she is paranoid. I think she told me something similar before and I probably posted then too.

But in a brief internet chat I had with a supplier in Hong Kong some time ago, he said competitors attacked or hacked daily. They would try to get false pages up. False prices, redirected emails/orders etc.

Spirit: I'll get an email or similar and PM.

My friend got me worried about this virus creation tool called "bootkit". It creates a virus which can not be detected or deleted.

I heard that the amount of new viruses go up dramatically when schools are out.

The the day before Christmas my mailbox and most of my neighbor's mailboxes were pushed down to the ground. The vandalism occurred because of the birth of the baby Jesus. The only solution I can see is to outlaw teenagers. They could be sent to Siberia with no computers until they grow up. Escape on foot would be difficult.

i like students trying to break everything on holidays, one could consider it as security research  Criminals are crawling everywhere around the economy, why wouldn't students be part of that population

as for viruses, backdoors, trojans and the next best thing, i guess they'll always exist

this road ahead is going to be very stupid unless everyone starts valuing life itself and makes human needs a priority over the needs of the machine that humans have birthed, physical, corporate and mental..... this doesn't fit in well with the "top dog" model.

these hackers are heroes in their world. too much romance. too little real. what a stupid system, that makes everybody's everything wreckable with one keystroke. try to do any commerce without one! it's almost illegal.

the internet is everybody's everything? you mean because banks have networks that kids can break into and steal? that's a mob dream not a teenager's. or is it more like disrupting a web site of a capitalist for 2 minutes and get famous? romance you said it, that's all it is. we can be heroes, just for one day

not for me

internot is an mbox

but it is cool for many other reasons. and if it can ever ged rid of its commercial side, i won't complain

top dogs have been trying to treat internet as everybody's everything

fuck them

hackinf the site of a capitalist ,
your giving too much thought to those kids who don't care, they 're just trying scripts and having fun their own way. now, after 10 hacks of spacef forums in 2 years, you'll never see them again.
what was on those forums ? online helps, presets and... freeware...
Legros, you're talking about a philosophy ? you must be joking, or smoking too much.... it makes holes in brains and lungs.
I know some ppl like you are playing live gigs yes, you get paid or not, who cares, but what if someone just shuts down the power intentionally when you play ? it's a bit the same, after a while you'll get bored (well, how much are you paid for the gigs again?).
those guys are just kids. no much philosophy in there, just trends and being "cool". why not... evrybody have been young. there are others who can be harmful (big mafia like organisations).
it's just that the people who give lessons are also a big part of the system and the problem, most of the time...
Regards

hey, i'm glad that she can run an internet café. i'm just saying that complaining about hackers evolving on the internet is absurd. call it a philosophy if you will

and thanks for the compliments

There are kids who think vandalising websites is cool. I understand it to a degree because there is the thrill of it and the thrill of doing something that no-one else(well, most people) do not know how to do. The people who do these things can be wanky individuals or people whose creativity has taken a sidesways step. Destruction can be creative, after all. I hope the creative ones see the error of their ways and go on to produce works of art that people say about "how was that done?".

Just kids? Possibly. Anyone can use this program to find computer ports which are not protected.
http://www.gfi.com/lannetscan/

Then hack to your hearts content with the plethora of free or paid software intended for the purpose.

Too easy. And if you haven't deleted your cookies lately, there are probably a few of those tracing all your movements on the web. Don't believe me?

I was told once that hackers were personalities who could pull things apart.... but not build. F>>>### 'em.

We all should take care of GABOT and AGABOT, they are destroying many systems in the world... absolutely terrifying kind of virus... they drive you mad, very difficult to control, almost imposible to completely remouve, because there are always some problems left.

What to do? AN VIRTUAL IMAGE OF YOUR C DRIVE. I have it and if I ever have a problem, I call it onto my C drive, overwrite the corrupted existing partition, and I'm ready to go again.

For those who want to have their PC truly clean of spyware, there is no better software than Acronis Privacy Expert. Try any software you want, and then on top, do a deep search with Privacy Expert Suite, and you'll be amazed, as it will still find things that nothing finds, nor your antivirus, or any other program available today. Just a tip, in case you use a lot the internet.

If you restore your drive from your C: image, all of your Native Instruments plugins will no longer be authorized also you are not allowed to re-authorize a computer! however you can use the authorization from your other computer (they allow 2 computers to be authorized). This is horrible and I hate NI for it.

Of course you can, you need to delete the old authorization first.

I've reimaged my C drive three times (Norton Ghost) and all my NI gear (Kontakt & Absynth) works fine. The *only* software that needs reauthorisation for me is Norton security.
