Sadly, the lack of affordable expandability for my Luna2 card has brought me to the point where I am going to sell it, in order to raise funds for one of the new Emu cards.

I have bought the Minimax plugin for my card, which I will be sad say goodbye to, but I need the extra I/O more than I need minimax

Am I able to sell on Minimax in any way? Can I transfer my licence?

Try the scope purchasing instead of General discussion to sell your minimx

a new Mini is 99 Euro (according to rumors of the 50% shop bug still existing)
you have to beat that price to sell yours
now subtract 35 Euro for the licence transfer and you've got at best 50 Euros left...

either keep the Mini or sell the card together with the Mini

sorry for no better news, tom

Lack of affordable expansion?

Perhaps you might inquire to Creamware whether they have any Luna I/O Boxes that they can sell outside of that bundle. Given the cost of a SCOPE home (Luna2) I would imagine that the i/o on its own is quite affordable...

That is a good package for new users, I agree, but Creamware are not selling the Luna I/O box on its own.

I think Creamware seriously need to lower prices and move with the times; the soundcard market is not the same as it was 3 years ago when their current range of cards came out.

The 8in/6out (+SPDIF) Emu card is only £300UKP, and has DSP fx. At the moment, the Luna is selling in the UK for £350!!!

(and that's before I talk about lack of expandability)

it's not that simple...

actually you don't pass anything, but inform CWA about the deal by giving them the customer's name, adress and board-id.
CWA then wants to be sure the registered code on your card is erased and send you a program by email which does this job and generates another code to indicate successful completion.

After this the Minimax is registered to the the new customer by CWA and can be downloaded. They need to generate a new key for the customer's board, which will be added to the customer's 'your file'.

That's the main point and what makes this kind of transfer special, annoying and costly...

I'd seriously consider Valis' idea - the IO box is way ahead in sound quality of the EMUs - and forget about the 'DSP' FX.
Despite the name it's different stuff than on Luna - and almost useless because due to certain restrictions.
I forgot the details but found it in several (otherwise positive) reviews.

cheers, Tom

i'm sure that you could find a luna box if you tried....

and as for expandability, i don't think that you can top scope. the emu is NOT the same sort of thing and in fact is much more limited. if it's just what you want or need though, by all means you should get it...

I am in correspondance with Creamware about a Luna I/O box, hopefully something will come of it.

I get annoyed with Creamware sometimes. In many ways, ther products are so so good, but they are just so slow moving in sorting things out.

I'd love it if they could sort out the annoyance of not being able to use XTC plugins in when running SFP for example.

i hear you...
cubase sx3 has in/out insert plugins which do pretty much the same thing as xtc. although it's "obsolete" logic5 has that feature as well(and is still a pretty good app).

The Emu is not the same kind of thing as a Creamware board, I accept that. For what it is tho, its a pretty tempting proposition...

2 Balanced ins with TF Pro mic preamps (same preamps as I already use in an separate unit), 6 balanced ins and out, SPDIF, all the drivers, internal routing etc...

It is not an expandable platform, I grant you, but £300 for what I describe above is pretty amazing. A Luna card only offers 2 unbalanced ins/outs + SPDIF. Its DSP section is so puny that it can handle what... 1 voice of minimax OR one masterverb... hardly a powerhouse, PLUS its £350, and there is no expansion box for it if you already have one!

Minimax is SOOO nice tho..

Got word from Creamware: The Luna I/O box is 266 Euros, about 190UKP.

Expensive in my opinion, given the cost of the new Emu cards.

Oh well, looks like another Luna going onto the market. Sad to sell it, but Creamware just aren't competitive anymore.

You should maybe keep an eye out for another used Luna or a Pulsar1 - they can go for quite cheap these days (ebay is good). It would give you scope for quite a bit of stuff- I worked with 8 dsp's for quite a long time and got a lot of work done with it. I have 20 now which is even better, obviously

picking up a second hand pulsar is a wise idea. you will see the difference. more polyphony and more power and I/O

Yeah, investing in CreamWare is good no matter what happens to computers -- because, after all, you can always move them into another computer to use as a synth rack if future computers don't support PCI (such as the G5). Those synths are just too darn good to pass up!
