I'm considering Tracktion as my sequencer/recording program. Anybody got any views on whether this is a suitable or "ornery" choice? Any comments welcomed....

I'm using it for some time now and am quite happy with it. It hasn't replaced Cubase SX completely for me, but new features are added super fast. Although the fact that it's being updated on an almost daily basis is at the same time one of my concerns, because it's hard to keep up and sometimes something that used to work fine is broke in a next version. However, the support by Jules (the creator of the software) is superb and if you e-mail him about a bug, most of the time it'll be fixed for the next day.

Tracktion has no seperate mixing window. You can do everything from the main window. So if you do your mixing in SFP, like me, it's a great combo with SFP, especially with a dual monitor setup. I have my SFP mixer on one monitor and Tracktion on the other. Works very efficiently.

It's still an application wich is heavily under construction and it still has some rough edges here and there, so I wouldn't advise it as your main sequencer, but all in all it's a very promising product.

Cheers,
Vincent

PS If you have some specific questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for that response. I can see great potential in Tracktion and that was why I was interested. I thought it would be a great partner with SFP, and it sounds like you have experienced that.

Your comment on the bugs/bug fixes was very relevant. I was considering it for my primary sequencer, and it obviously isn't ready for that...yet. I really appreciate your comments. I'll get something else for now, but will follow Tracktion's development.

Thank you!
