In case you weren't looking: if you load an effects processor into SFP and select a preset, the preset name becomes visible in the Live Bar.

Wondering why I am stating what is probably obvious to many of you? I anguished over this often. I've always wished there was a way to determine which preset I used for a particular effect/device/project. Sometimes, I'll pull up a preset which suits my needs and then almost immediately forget which preset it was that I selected (must have been those 200 acid trips I took back in high school). Without a visual reference of some kind, it's difficult or impossible to tell (unless you write it down on paper).

I usually have the Live Bar condensed so that I can only see the device icon(s). The other day I was playing around with it and I noticed that the preset names appear to the right of the icon (of course, the Live bar has to be widened in order to see it - duh!).

This only applies to effects/devices which are loaded into/onto the project window. An effect in a mixer channel insert loses the ability to tell you what preset is loaded. That might be a nice addition to a future upgrade - don'tcha think?

It would be nice if implemented right (but CW usually does that). If all effects became visual in the live bar, it would be a nightmare. If however they could be turned on and of (an tag at mixer/multi-effect shows all the included modules right under it. Or an extra menu: Devices, ins, outs, effect-containing devices with tagging options for each included effect.

I agree - it would be a nightmare in the Live Bar.

The point I was trying to make is this: if the preset names can appear in the Live Bar, then why can't mixer channel insert effect presets be identified somehow? I think we addressed this topic once before here. Perhaps, at the top of each effect, there could be a small window with the name of the preset in use?

Of course, that would mean re-programming a lot of effects which I assume is a lot of work

Are there any 3rd party programmers out there who can tell me if that is even possible? Maybe there is a good reason it hasn't been done already. I don't recall seeing this feature even in 3rd party devices.

I've been posting about this issue for some time and the turnaround I've been using, along I mostly work on XTC, is saving each loaded preset as a VST effect = *.fxp. This works fine ´coz it may be written the same name of the SFP loaded preset in the effect/instrument window. I wish it would be possible in normal mode as well.

The LiveBar sometimes shows presets but not always. For example, when starting a project with Sonic Attack you don't see the loaded preset.

The sensible place to show the active preset is in the preset window itself. The active preset (and bank) should be highlighted. The preset highlight should change colour when settings are changed (or be indicated by * as in the LiveBar). And single-clicking a preset, without actually loading it, should be a different colour again.
(How many times have I said that now?)

Actually, I think the best place to place the reset name (if we can get only one place) is in a text field on the device itself.

Any of your suggestions would be welcome by me. Whether or not we live long enough to see it implemented is another story

I usually save the preset as a new name, i.e. the preset name with a 1 or 2 next to it, or preferably the name of the song Like 'anastrings1' or 'anastringsSummer' where Summer is the name of the song. Then I know which preset I started off with. Also if I listen back to 'Summer' and think 'hey I like that', I know where it is.
Just a suggestion
