well, I'm planning to move Logic (currently Cubase) and I don't know if it works good in such combination: a Mac + Pulsar card + Logic audio. Any comments welcome
PS
Why? If I wanted to upgrade my ol' Cubase 4.1 to a newer version I would have to choose between an OS X relesse (SX, SL) and a classic release (5.x). Logic offers a version for both OSes at one price. Even more: a Cubase score upgrade to SL would cost me about 250 euros while a full Logic audio (the simpliest yet comparable with SL) bundle (including additional EXSP24, EVP, ES1 and a sample CD) costs the same and I have still my cubase...
to my knowledge it works great, but afaik, the current box is noisy and only will fit one cw card.(size limitations)
hardwarewise, there are some big changes coming since the motorola processors and mobo architecture are pretty old and in need of a revamp to stay current in performance...the word that i hear is that the older g4 is a much better box....
so-
i'd wait a munite and see what happens in the next 6-12 months, personally.i'm thinking of looking at macs then myself.the current version of logic should be usefull at least that long and i'd be thinking of an upgrade then anyway.....otherwise,again if it were myself buying,i think i might try a single processor g4,though it galls me to go backward......
Thanks Gary. I didn't mean new computer - I meant changing the soft only. I'm a Mac owner (G4/400) and it works fine for 2 years or so with CW cards (besides minor midi problems) and I know the new Macs are noisy (or were noisy - there is a free -fan replacement campaign now for those noisy Macs users). If I wanted to replace my old Mac I would buy a secondhand G4/933. I don't belive in those 2 proc versions, yet. Another problem stated here (by Astroman?) is the one with non Apple memory sticks in the new machines...

indeed, that was me. Somethings you'll never forget and those f**king 10 bucks of extra profit Apple made on that stick will go on my alltimes most sucking highscore.
It did cost me at least 3 hours of work to find out what was going on and an extra order and wait for the replacement
Btw, that G4 you have is probably undestructable, I wouldn't trade that for anything...
Once I used Logic (Logic audio discovery) which was bundled with my first 'pro' card - Audiowerk8. I remember it was ok but the version had its limits (no asio, no vst etc). Yesterday I tried the 4.63 demo and I like it - especially those automation curves - almost like in ProTools. Do you know if there is a demo version of 6 or at least 5.x somewhere available (for MAc)?. There is no on the Emagic site...

It's good to hear it as I like my machine. I don't want to start another pc/mac war (oh no!!!!) but looking at my friends and their PC they get old very fast while I find my G4/400 resaonably fast. I can compare it with the machines at my work (G4/800s) - yes, they are faster but with all the soft I use my Mac doesn't operate like a snail (the only one component I replaced was the HD - the barracuda I added is unbeatable!).
As I said it's not intended to start a new war - it's only my subjective opinion
