Dear Pulsarians

Yes I want to use at least 5 mics to record a live drum set, and maybe some other instruments, and I'm about to buy a A16 Ultra, so I'm wondering about HOW I'm going to connect the XLR mics that need 48v of phantom power??,, do you guys use an extra mic preamp for that matter? and if so, which one do you recomend?....

I've seen a cheap one, the SM Pro Audio SM PR8 eight channel Mic preamp...I say "cheap" if you compare it with the Presonus...

Thanks

yes, a preamp is required. What you may also consider is a compact mixer (such as one of the Soundcraft Spirit series) with insert points or direct outs - you can use the preamps on the mixer channels.

I use a small Mackie mixer (1642VLZ) for the same purpose. The first 8 channels have direct recording outputs so I send these to the A16. Mackie rules!
