I went through the tutorials and the manual but I find that these instruction seriously lack some depth regarding specific functions. Is there anything more extensive or will I have to rely on you guys to explain a few things to me?

specific function as in? A lot of the modules have a secondary use I think, and those are the "tricks" you need to familiarize yourself with, to make complex patches in my opinion.

Especially with control signals.. mod is very limited as to how it can handle control signals so there are a bunch of ways to do it, using unconventional ways.

Is that what you mean?

Partly. I want to know precisely how each module works individually first, like an elaborate overview of every component... Each knob'S function, each entry's role, etc. As for the creative ways to build patches, I'd like to know more about it too, but for this I might need some guidance, for I don't have much experience. Since the contest, I've been fiddling with my mod almost every day and I'm amazed every time!

you cant learn how to mod through a manual.

understanding what each module does to the low level is way beyond a manuals job.

and http://www.musicdsp.org

can give you some ideas why.

enjoy!

The tutorials are pretty well hopeless, especially since there's hardly any pictures. You NEED pictures for this device.

What I'd like better explained is the function and EXAMPLE uses of modules such as most of the gate modules; the diode; inverter; bi to unipolar; constant value bipolar etc

The manual briefly states what they do, but how do you use them ? Maybe they'd be fantastically useful, but other than using the trial-and-error method, there's no easy way to find out.

Something along the lines of: Put oscillator here, connect unipolar convertor here; and this happens. But put unipolar here and modulate with XYZ and you can get this effect. Etc

Here's an oscilloscope, handy for modulation and audio signals. It can show you graphically what some modules do to waveforms.

[Edit] This Winscope BSOD's my computer.

I found this link somewhere, to a programming toturial for the Access Virus-synth. I have only briefly flipped through the pages, but there are a lot of detailed information about how to achive certain soundtypes and effects. Now, the toturial is specifically written for the Access Virus-synth, but the techniques is well explained and could easily be applied to the Modular.

You can find it as a zip-file at the buttom of this link:

Cheers!
