Hi,

i have a suggestion to have SFP software running without any problem at all with other sequencing softwares (i tried it with logic audio platinum and it worked great!)

1) Set Priority of SFP.exe software under taskmanager to the "LOWEST" value.

2) Run Logic Audio in usual way. Logic audio won't stop playing any more when you change SFP parameters (mixers, effects, synths etc).

This setting is much better for me because setting the Sequencing software with higher priority caused me more problems with certain plugins instead of leaving it with its default settings as priority.

I tested this system with Logic Audio Platinum under Windows XP (SP1) and it works great for me.

I hope this will help someone else too.

Let me know if you need some batch files to set SFP.exe automatically as LOW-Priority at SFP startup.

I prefer to leave SFP @ normal, and run Logic @ AboveNormal.
That way SFP's meter/control response doesn't suffer...

Hi kimgr,
thank you for your suggestion.

I prefer leaving the SFP software to the lowest settings, since it's not so much important for me how sfp software reacts. It's much more important that the rest of the system runs fine with sfp running in background.

If i set logic to "abovenormal" or "high" priority, it gives me (here in my system) some problems with certain heavey plugins : they stutter sometimes or i can hear some scratches from those plugins( and/or instruments).

It doesn't happen settings logic as "normal" .

For that reason i suggested to give this suggestion , if people are interested (like) in working flawlessly in their sequencer more than in sfp environment.

I don't notice so much "slowness" anyway using low-priority settings in SFP software. I will try to increase a little the priority to see what happens to logic.

I found cubase sx much more "friendly" with sfp software than logic audio (winxp).

Win98se has no difference and it seems to run a bit faster without any additional tricks(using standard win98se optimizing tips which everybody know).

regards
sYm

I have to run SFP at low priority and CubaseSX at high in order to get glitch-free playback at 7ms ulli.
I haven't noticed if this slows down SFP graphics, but it definitely improves the sound.

setting pre sfp software to lowest priority definitely helps. The difference lies in being able to work with sfp's in real time, without sound glitches! Glad to hear this solves an sfp lack

This is a great tip and I have been using it for some time now on XP.

The only thing is, I have to set the priority every time I start Logic which is becoming a pain in the ass.

How do the priority at startup?

You can edit the shortcut you use to start Logic. You right-click the shortcut, select properties, and edit the target field.
The following is my shortcut target for CubaseSX. Change the cubasesxcubasesx.exe in my example to the target that's set in your Logic shortcut before you edit.

If the path itself contains a space you have to use the DOS path :-

c:windowssystem32cmd.exe /c "start /high C:Progra~1SteinbergCubase~1Cubasesx.exe"

That's one line, with a space between high and C
Don't forget the placement of the "

dbmac, don't look so far: one could use that command for all other programs, but Cubase.

Cubase has it built-in: Sx ->Devices ->Device setup ->VST Multitrack ->Expert. Set it here and Cubase will load with it automatically next time.

Nice syntax hint you had nevertheless.

You're right, I don't use that shortcut deal with SX any more, just a variation of it (start /low) - for SFP shortcut.
Setting audio priority to very high in multitrack/expert will load SX in high task manager priority.

How's the Pulsar IRC action?

How would I apply this in win XP?

Your shortcut solution does not work for me (to dbmac)

Same here, XP doesnt let me enter this value in the shortcut properties, for either SFP or Cubase SX. Is there a way to give priority settings for each app?

It works for me in XP. What shortcut target are you trying to edit?

I got it to work

The problem is that when you paste some slash characters in the forums, they are trimmed and thus I had to edit more by hand to make it work.

Do you guys know what file(s) to tweak for setting low priority on SFP when it loads in XTC mode - or is it not needed in this mode?

OK I've tested the shortcut trick with SX in high priority and let me tell you something... I got crackles!

After switching back to the regular shortcut, no more crackles (well, I could make it crackle if I wanted but hey  )

It's weird, wasn't it supposed to "improve" perfs; maybe in some cases its better left alone?

mano1, try setting creamware soft to low priority. This will let you play with any buttons, parameters in the creamware environment without crackles. At least it works with logic. But then if you work with the sequencer, you'll have to set the priorities back to normal in both software... I have heard that the sfp helps things running better, software priority wise and would like to know if anyone has tested this?

You can set the task priority for SX (as at0mic points out) by using the Devices ->Device setup ->VST Multitrack ->Expert option. No shortcut hack necessary
