A new forum category?

A place to talk about whatever Scope music/gear related stuff you want.

Hi guys,
Should we have a new category, "Community" (and one or more forums under that)or something like that? I have seen this in many forums.
Especially now, when we are having pretty...hmm flammable talk here (The Iraq war discussion). It's valuable discussion but has nothing to do with Pulsar.
Reason for that? I don't want to see people starting to hate each other just for their opinions.
I hope these discussions don't disturb the quality SFP talk here. We can separate professional and ideological opinions, can't we?

This is a good idea. We should take care on all people who come their first time on this Pulsar planet.
Maybe they are already overcharged with all the pulsar stuff.

An OT forum / coffee lounge / chill out area would be good. This has been suggested a few times but some of our music purists have objected. But I don't think one more forum's going to hurt given the large number already up (some pretty lightly patronised). It could also prove exceeding popular and help make this a more general meeting place. And why not ? The Z people are a good bunch

While I am apposed to adding yet more forum categories.

It surprises me that this place doesn't have an "off topic"
category especially as every other forum I have visted has one.

BTW this has been discussed before a while back but nothing came of it.

I have take a look on the 50 last posts. In that 50 there is maybe 5 posts completely OT (no computers discussion or pulsar discussion).I have Kalculate  that it is 10%.in that 10% ,100% are really interressant to read.A kind of OT forum could be nice.
What do you think John?

Nice idea guys, as long as we keep positive, cos even if it is an OT place, it would anyway be within the Planet Z Forum, so... all depends on the topics. I would agree as long as we don't go into fights or something like that.

I think no matter what we type in this (General pulsar Disscussion) part of PlanetZ it's always related to Pulsar. Because we all own or aspire to own at least one CW card...

Adding more sub forums will make this place messy (and we don't want it to be so). Why? just look at all the 'sticky' threads that explain what is already written in each forum title - people are just people and they would write OT things in all sub forums (do you remind a sticker 'push' on a store door and you pull the handle each time? I do).

The conclusion is: if you add one more 'OT sub forum' people will write OT things in the new forum and will continue to write such things in 'general...'

I basically agree with Samplaire.

I've been reluctant to open a "off-topic forum" for a number of reasons.

However, I have been planning to open a planetz chat room, and when that's open, hopefully it'll satisfy the 'lounge' aspects of this request? (I still have some coding to do before the chat thing becomes a reality).

I can see the point of what samplaire saying,
but I mean an offtopic post can always be moved to the offtopic category. (More work for John though)

I would much prefer this, rather than coming across offtopic posts all over the place.

A chat room would be great, but to be honest from my point of view I haven't got the time to sit there and chat for half an hour, I come to PlanetZ when I need a break and chillout, and maybe make one or two posts, not type for half an hour to an hour.
I spend too much time on MSN as it is.
So for me this would not fulfill the need to talk about off-topic issues.

Sometimes I like to discuss wider issues than pulsar, with a lot of like minded (or not?) people.

I think there is a greater need for an 'Off topic' then there is for some of the other forum categories here.

But I can fully understand your point that Planetz is starting to look a bit cluttered, especially with all those categories to do with DSP usuage.

Oh well guys that was just my opinion, feel free to flame me, or ignore it, (but don't under any circumstances take offense)

Reading what Samplair says, I hope that we become again to the beginning, and if there should not be a forum for "general life" things, I think it would be good that in the GENERAL Pulsar Discussion or any of the current categorys we can speach some topics from NON Pulsar things.

It will be a disimulated way to do that, and made with respect, I can´t see that is a bad thing.

I think that is so good that people who joing having something in common (in this case Music, sound or Creamware cards) can talk about another things.

We still having that in common, that won´t change.

We still being PERSONS!!!

I couldn't put it in better words! Maybe we could have more moderators here to move OT posts to OT forum. It would be good for everybody (that posts are in correct forum). It would help people to find the thing they are looking for.

About the chat room, my girlfriend would hate that . Also, that would greatly decrease my ability to work... :/
But I don't be against it. It would be great for *real musicians*, who don't have day-job neither girl-friend living in the same house

I think the chat is a good alternative to a next forum. Life will show if it's useful.

Good points about the chat room.
I honestly doubt I'd even have time to participate in it much  So maybe it's not worth it...

So, a question about moving OT posts to a new forum: How do you feel about hubird's broken ankle announcement post?

Sometimes I don't like having to make these decisions--- what qualifies as an announcement, what should be moved? I don't want to appear like a fascist dictator, you know!?

I could make the new OT forum, and people send me mail/pmsg when they see something in the wrong forum...

Let's keep this place musical, eh?

A chatroom WOULD be nice..
