Hello Everyone,

I plan to buy a powerpulsar with the SRB(30 sharcs?) for a g4 400.
A few questions:
1.Any magor bugs that prevent it from running smoothly?
2.How powerful is this setup? Ex. how many instances of Minimax ?
3.When(or if) will XTC intergration be implimented for Mac?
4.Sound quality compared to Korg Oasys?
5.Does it play well with other cards(Oasys,UAD,Powercore,MOTU 2408)?

Thanks,

1. None that i know of.
2. 30 DSP should be enogh for just about anything. How many Minimax voices i don't know but many.
3. I have no idea and really don't care as i don't think i'll use if i could. The live bar works in kind of the same way but much more flexible.
4. I prefer some Oasys devices over the Pulsar one's and vice versa. There are so many more synths for Pulsar and sadly i have'nt tried them all. But Pulsar is in no way inferior to the Oasys card, that's for sure.
5. I had an Oasys card running along my Pulsar without a problem. I don't think you can run a MOTU card with a Pulsar since they both use ASIO. You'd need XTC for this.

If you're going to spend that much, you should really get a newer Mac with better PCI performance. (933 QS is a good choice).

Thanks for replies.

Jupiter8:
Can you give an example of the Live Bar in action? The Creamware site doesn't say much about it.

Kimgr:
What is the relationship between PCI bus performance and Pulsar? Does it mean less instances, stuttered audio or ???

Thanks,

You don't have to have the routing window open. You can do everything from the live bar. It is kinda hard to explain (at least for me). You could think of it as an extra window in Logic (or Cubase) where all the Pulsar stuff is handled.

Q2. Some devices use a lot of PCI traffic due to the fact that there is no onboard memory.
Reverbs use the most then there is samplers.
Synths and regular effects uses very little PCI. In practice only reverbs are the problem.

I have G4/400 and a Pulsar II and was able to load it with Masterverbs until i ran out of DSP so it is not critical unless your going to use a lot of reverbs.
But newer G4 has higher PCI capacity.

At least make sure that you have an AGP for the graphics card. The first G4:s had'nt.
