Hi

I have recently got myself an ADSL line, so that, in the main, it will make downloading easier (especially pulsar updates which seem to be huge). I should be able to download at at least 58kb/sec and have tested my system to make sure that is possible (downloaded a 5mb file from my service provider with no problems).

However, when i try to download the SFP file from the creamware site the maximum speed i get is 6kb/sec?! I have emailed creamware and their suggestion was to get a cd from my local dealer?!

Has anyone else had this problem and is it problem with their bamdwidth?

many thanks

K

looks like CW is limiting the bandwith per connection/IP-address to ensure bandwidth for other users..... try getting the file using a download manager (like Flashget or Getright) which utilizes multiple connections per file, or even better, try some of the mirrors that have been put up by PlanetZ members! Use the PlanetZ search facility to find the postings about these "mirrors"

I remember that 'server-1' had exactly the behaviour you describe, but 'server-2' worked at least with 25 kByte/sec when I downloaded about 2 month ago.
Probably depending on the number of users connected. Have you tried different times ?

cheers, Tom

You can get a program called download accelerator that will split the files up into 4 or 7 smaller files and download them all at once and then reconstruct it at your end. it helps with bandwith limited per connection servers.

I have EXACTLY the same frustrations as you. I had ADSL connected with one of my main reasons being to be able to DL the CW updates.

If I wasn't fucked to find out they throttle the line at 6kbs. I was seriously pissed, as if there servers are getting hit so hard they need to throttle the line. Like fuck. I am a user who has practically supported every CW effort good or bad but this one... And I was using a Flashget which is a solid DL accelerator. makes no difference whatsoever. The way they have it setup, you can only download one file at a time per machine off the one server, so the idea of splitting files up into many small ones doesn't work.

I know all the reasons why they don't need to make it any better business wise (why spend money when you have a working system, thats just standard business practice, till a salesman sells you something you really can do without). Doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off! Here in Oz the dealers take forever to get the disks and they never order enough so when you get there they've always run out. PRICKS! Its a less feasible option than downloading. I have only just downloaded it in the last couple of days and therefore still have no idea of SFP. How many months later??

Anyone got a valium???
