question about s/tdm-connectors

i didnt find anything in the manual. a luna has 1 connector, a pulsar2 2, a scope 5. if i'm not wrong then an s/tdm cable can connect 3 cards. now i wonder why i would need more than one connector per card?
can anyone solve this riddle?
