formant and time stretch parameters

Does anyone else have the problem of not having the full range of the formant and timestretch controls via CC's in the STS-5000?
Even if I have the modulation amount all the way at 50 or -50 I only get a small range of control to the range available in Zones > Special > Formant/TimeStretch parameters.
I want to sweep into those twisted sounds but still be able to come back to Earth. Anyone else have an issue with this limitation?
