I've seen two threads being locked within the last 24 hours.. This is really bad news.
I really like this site and it would be a shame if it went down because of this behaviour. Let people express their ideas even though you do not agree with them
Just my two democratic cents

I haven´t read the whole thread that has been locked, but I didn´t find it too much offending what was going on there. We all know how threads can be, and every opinion counts! We will always find a large range of different opinions and entitlements in a single user base. It´s the same everywhere.... One day we will all cheer united for our system and the other day we will scream it´s limitations! There´s nothing wrong with that..
I agree - moderation is important but it should be done with a light touch.
DXL winds a lot of people up (me included I freely admit) and has generated a lot of noise. But locking down discussions is perhaps a step too far.
I would suggest that a stern warning might have been a better place to start.
I appreciate that you have just stepped into the role Subhuman and that I am sure you are finding out that its a thankless task so this is really just my $0.02.
On a related note it is becoming clear that the only answer to DXL is to ignore him and that is exactly what I propose to do from now on.

In times of problems, focus on the main goal, leave the sideshow out.
We're here cos we all have CW cards, let's stick a little to the topic please. The same's with any discussion or conference: moderators point out speakers as long as they have usefull things to say, or make a point. When the speaker goes off topic, the moderator will let someone else speak with more relevant information for the rest of the conference. That's how they can come to a conclusion and make something usefull of their ideas.
Done.

I don't really think locking that dxl thread has anything to do with democracy.
The guy is plainly trolling, acting like a brattish kid. He's doing exactly the same on the yahoo-groups pulsar-scope list right now, and really getting up people's noses there too.
The point is that different opinions ARE valid.. however, stupid lame attitudes and constant bitching ARE NOT.
I haven't seen many locked topics in PlanetZ, and I think this is down to the maturity of the community as a whole. However we just don't need someone like dxl acting like a whining girl in here. Of course, the natural reaction to postings like his should be to ignore them outright.. but becasue his posts are just so offensive and annoying it seems difficult for people to do that.
The only solution is to lock the thread, in my humble opinion anyway. You have my full support on this one, Subhuman (or whoever locked it).
peace

I might have agreed with you if it wasn't for the fact that Mr. moderator locked two threads within 24 hours; a moderator should play his role and yes maybe it would have been a good idea to lock the one listed in here.
But Immanuel's announcement category thread got locked as well and that's a little bit too much for moi. It doesn't solve anything either. BTW, DXL has nothing to do with my post although he is quite referenced within the threads I'm talking about.
This is about letting people express their views on whatever (pulsar related, and other cool ones maybe) subjects posted here. And the least we should expect is to get a good motive behind the lock as contributions from every posters make up the contents of a website. I didn't see any explaination, just plain arbitrary locks.
I'm not saying this to start off a war, rather because this kind of behaviour should go away unnoticed.
Anyway, if you people think this is good stuff then why do I bother, I just feel this is really wrong. So moderator, do yourself a favor and lock this one up as well

personally I appreciated very much the thread from Immanuel about "learning", this was a better way to *moderate* than locking. He made the point of the situation and a warning to all people involved (me too) on what was a decent behaviour, making people to think about it.
sorry sub, you're really our guru, but I did not like that

Gentlemen,
Please keep personal attacks, and non creamware related material off. Perhaps a more clear reason should be posted: I am getting a lot of email to ban someone or to do something about the situation here. I am not about to ban anyone, nor censor anything, but when a thread degenerates into arguing and totally off topic posts with no relevance to the topic of this board - discussing Creamware products - they will be locked. That said, this thread is getting mighty close. I'm not going to take sides, I'm not going to criticize anyone, but I can please ask to keep it on topic and at a mature level of discussion.
Censorship would be banning someone or deleting threads, neither of which has happened. If John sees fit to unlock any threads I've locked when he returns, he is of course free to do so.
Now please, let's not fight or get personal on here. If someone is being really offensive to you the best way to handle it is to NOT give them your attention or your time responding.
Thank you, PlanetZ members.

I'm with you 1000%, Subhuman!!! The one most useful thing I found in life is to stop an argument before it starts, whether by saying to the attacking person to shut up or simply by leaving without saying a word. In this case, it is the moderator's duty to silence these childish, pointless and absolutely irrelevant arguments.
Here's what I do: I simply ignore whatever provocation comes to me and in this way, prevent discord from taking control of my attention, and imho, everyone with the impulse to argue would better do the same, if they don't want anymore rightfully locked topics!
Be at peace.

I've read through all the locked threads now, and really, if you have an issue with locking these, then you should really go to the Creamware forum, where you can pointlessly argue about pointless stuff all day.
The extra threads made about the dxl fiasco really achieved nothing more than the original thread.
These kinds of threads just perpetuate the problem that dxl created. Are you familiar with the concept of TROLLING? Some bored, childish individual jumps onto a forum/chatroom/mailing list/whatever, and then throws round some insults and puerile attitudes which basically start a huge flaming war, and in the end the only thing that is achieved is that the community is in ruins after bickering itself to death, and the malicious troll walks off happy, knowing he has achieved what he set out to achieve. GET IT?
Now... this thread is starting to go the same way... so basically this is where I personally jump OFF. Have fun arguing the pointless. I'd rather check out some more useful threads and make music. I'd humbly encourage others to do the same, and not add even more fuel to this crazy argument.
peace

Hey guys,
I've really been tempted to join in to say something on previous occasions when dxl has upset people. But I bit my tongue as much as possible on the basis that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
So this is going to be my only post on the subject and is not intended as a personal attack....
What makes me laugh is how many producers or promoters might browse planetz and of course planetz is composed of serious professionals.
How many of you would give dxl a record deal?
Not many... regardless of talent
Its a people business, and at the end of the day all dxl has served to do is put himself at odds with people, who are less likely to take him seriously.
So before I JUMP off I will say dxl stop getting up peoples noses, it will benefit you in the long run.
The other thing that concerns me is the fact that I think he is actually older than I am (18yrs) and hope that his posts haven't served to degrade anyones opinion of young people, or there ability to converse in an intelligent and mature manner, and contribute to the pulsar community
Anyway thanks for reading.

I noticed a thread locked but in this case was puzzled as to why. If someone is going to take that drastic a step they ought to justify why they are doing it. This is a great forum. It's nice to see a Creamware site that isn't controlled by Creamware. I like to hear pros and cons. Naturally threads go off topic. I have no problem with that. Let them go where they will.

In the Tech Forum the NS10 discussion has been locked.... I really was wondering why? I was really curious if someone had the solution to the NS10 problem. After all I read in this thread, the reason must be that talking about NS10 is something not Ceamware related... Well, I think threads like that shouldn´t get closed. Just imagine in the Digidesign or Nuendo forum it wouldn´t be valid to talk about non Digidesign or non Nuendo related things.. The best forums are the ones that are not limited in its possibilities... Will a thread be closed, when someone wants an advice on which "Direct-x" plug-in to take for de-essing? I hope not, and I think I saw a couple of threads that went in that direction....
Regards,
Sunshine
