Hello everyone,
A friend of mine bought a Luna card just before Luna II came out. She has never had the patience to learn to use her card, so I am considering trading her my Echo Audio Mona for her Luna (w/the breakout box included).
What's frustrating is that I went to the Creamware website and there are obviously new drivers and software for my card, but they are trying to *charge* me for them???
I have never before been charged for driver/main software updates. So, what I'm trying to decide is if it's worth it to trade her, then pay to upgrade to Luna II v3.0, then presumably pay *again* at some point to upgrade to Scope 3.1, etc.
Has anyone else had this headache?
thanks,
Mark Gladden
Need some advice
I'm pretty sure Luna"1" is the same hardware as Luna"2" only the original Luna was also bundled with the LunaBox...
About drivers, there <i>are</i> free versions of the 2.5 drivers for 2k/XP for the Luna.
You have the option to buy the V3 upgrade, which also includes more DSP effects including the very usable masterVerb reverb. I am pretty sure, although not 100% positive (I'll have to check on this), that Scope Fusion 3.1 will be free to those Luna users who already purchased the V3 update...

You don't use Windows(95->98, or 98-98SE, or 98SE->ME or 2000->XP?) or Cubase/Logic/Sonar?

first off, thanks for the advice! i couldn't find the free drivers on the website, i'll look more closely this time.
now if i can find 100 bucks to upgrade to v3. it still makes me want to keep my echo audio card, but i think i'll try it.

i consider those software only. software only purchases require me to ugprade. when i spend thousands of dollars for hardware, i expect the software upgrades to be free. just my opinion though.
thnx again!:)

Luna is hardly thousands of dollars, and BTW its the only card that has ever had to pay for a software update. Pulsar users, for example, have had free updates, from 1.0 all the way to 3.01b so far...On 2002-03-13 15:31, losangeleskat wrote:

my friend said she paid $1,200 for the card and the i/o box. i would think that would entitle one to a few software upgrades, hehe.
and BTW its the only card that has ever had to pay for a software update. Pulsar users, for example, have had free updates, from 1.0 all the way to 3.01b so far...
wow, thats a tough pill to swallow. i guess if you spend over $2,000 you start to get some customer service, hehe:)

the only thing you pay extra for in the luna situation,is to be on the unified platform. luna, originally, required one to purchase pulsar to get pulsar functionality. one always could purchase the pulsar software if one added an srb only.that is what one is buying for $100,pulsar functionality.it WOULD have been NICE for cw to not charge.it was not, however, owed.it's not surprising that ANY company in this business would want to recoup developement costs, and it is not good to squeeze old customers, but cw's actions do not seem excessive.(i thought propak was not a bad compromise)the platform seems to be getting better all the time and it's pretty good now so i'm happy.it's been noticed that my budget is low.i'm able to do work that would require a high budget. it's good for the company to pick up a few dollars occasionally if they're used to further the platform and are not just lining their pockets.
oh yeah,it's o.k. if they make a little increase too.(don't be greedy tho guys)
