How is the old creamware A8/16 convertor? still usable?

A place to talk about whatever Scope music/gear related stuff you want.

for the things i use my A8 for, this machinery works fine. i'm not a professional musician or do pro recordings for bands. i just use it to bring my guitar, nordrack2 and external fx in the pulsar environment, which it does of course.

There are actually some big names STILL using the 'old' A16s. They are nice units.

A few things, the old versions (A8/A16) had fans inside them which some find too loud. Also I believe there was an issue with storing their state, so you might have to switch it to master or slave each time you power on.

They may have a slightly higher noise floor than current products and may 'only' be 18bit, but they still sound better (subjectively of course) than even some of the 24bit units.

In fact some guys prefer the sound of A8 to the new Lunabox, even if the Lunabox has a lower noise floor and is 24bit!

There were scans of the A8/A16s John Cooper posted up in an old thread, but the pictures are gone, or I'd link to it...
