Are Scope cards repairable?
Are Scope cards repairable?
I was curious if Sonic Core has the capacity to repair the old Scope cards. Anyone know? Has anyone ever had one repaired?
Re: Are Scope cards repairable?
yes they can repair them
as with most electronics the biggest problem is cold solder joints that fail over time and usually a reflow usually does the trick unless its a proprietary chip
but all chips are still available that were used on the scope cards so there should be no problem in sorting it out for sonic core or any electronics repair station that works at the component level

SonicCore cannot fix them.
Re: Are Scope cards repairable?
ok then you live in usa
my co worker colleague lives in usa
he designed the dss1 upgrade and the obmx upgrade boards and the replacement ssm5530 sample and hold chip and we are working on the new rev for the dsm1 sampler
he can have a look at it and tell you if you have any cold solder joints via a telescope and repair if necessary
if you lived in uk i would have had a look at it

Looks like there is capacity to repair capacitors if you have the capability or can find someone in that caper (like jhulk's USA mate). Example right here, from just last year :krizrox wrote:Capacity to repair the old Scope cards. Anyone know? Has anyone ever had one repaired?

The trick is this - IF you know where the damage is - post a pic and someone might be able to tell you what to do ! Just DONT solder reverse polarities like polarity nearly did, otherwise you will polarise advisers. Or you will be punished for making too many puns.

Is the card dead? or intermittent in failures?
You should post some hi-res pictures here first...a lot of failures can be seen visually as Dante suggests.
What about smell? Anything give up the magic smoke? Your nose knows best.
Info such as if you have a decent Multi-meter could also help (check for shorts in the supply, etc)

Re: Are Scope cards repairable?
We design make and manufacture parts
We also upgrade adding new circuits via implants by cuts and trace wiring
We also reverse engineer we recreated the eps16 plus scsi interface and the asr10 scsi interface which has not been manufactured since 1996
Our current project is a memory expansion for the 1998 korg dsm1 sampler
Which is having a faster cpu and huge memory and new filter control board to add more
Filter types and reaonance and external audio
And my latest project is a new dual filter board for a new korg dss1 prototype
And my dual floppy scsi card drive
I also repaired yayajohns sk20 and our work is warranty repair

Re: Are Scope cards repairable?
This was more of a generic question. I had a slight issue recently with my Scope/A16 setup. The A16 was shipped to Fero for repair but their assessment was that they weren't sure there was anything wrong with the A16 so now suspicion is focused on the Scope card. I haven't received the A16 back yet so time will tell. I'm not sure I want to go through this again (repair I mean). It's a long convoluted process to ship something to Europe and then wait for it to come back. I think if it came right down to it I'd just say adios and port over to Xite and be done with it. I was just curious. I'll know more when the A16 comes back.
