sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED

Post by dante »

A problem I had loading MasterIT EQ due to DASCOEFF11.sys not loading, seems now I have the same issue with MATTOMAT file tgsxMatt.sys.

Latest versions (x64) in SYS folder, but will not load.

Fidox resolved the problem by rolling back Windows 8 Security updates to a pre April 2014 state :

http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32720&

I tried this but no luck.

Can anyone confirm they are running either of these devices, or not able to run these devices, on a 64 bit Windows 8 with the latest (or post April 2014) security updates installed ?

I hope you'll find a solution !

It took me a lot of time, before i figure out that spring update for win8.1 causes me troubles.
I'm still running without that update and scope works fine.

well, that might help, or it just might show that the driver or an app using the driver crashed, but not why...

have you contacted Thomas or Olive? they may know what needs to be done, if they are aware of the problem.

For the record: Bluescreenview was practically useless, mainly because there is no blue screen. This crash is basically a reboot - no blue screen, no chance for bluescreenview to capture anything (as far as I can tell) - just a reboot.

In my case, it was spring update for Win8.1, so i un-installed this update and everything works perfect.
That was 2 months ago already.

Apparantly they created the option to reboot on failure rather than BSOD, then set that option as default !

http://www.troubleshootwindows.com/wind ... -vista-xp/

So thats the next thing to try I guess....just to get crash dump.

Turned off the auto reboot on crash, now system doesn't reboot on load of sys device, it just looks ok for a few seconds then hangs.

Can you try running Scope in a compatability mode? Maybe this will release whatever restriction was added.

I have the same issue in Windows 8.1 x64. In my case is with Solaris Plugin and Matomat.

Usually it will restart once and then it will accept both plugins without issues. The first times it needed more than one try to get stable.

problem is that the scope drivers were written with the 2008 c++ distribution

and the windows 8 is using the latest c++ visual studio distribution problem is thst some features in the 2008 will now be redundant as they find better ways to implement .cpp files and class files

thats why i have stuck with the win x86 installs

my emu dsp cards dont have drivers for the win7 or 8 and they just dont work past vista on both x86 or x64

these cards were still being sold by emu up until 2 years ago

we are lucky that the scope cards work great with new tech and that the drivers are at least compatible with the win732bit and x64

the reason for all this is microsoft for ever change so that you need the latest and best

its the same for graphics cards my son his £500+ grafix card is now defunct as it wont work with the latest games as the driver is not updated enough and never will as the whole computer system is to get you to buy buy buy for the latest tech even though the software is 6+ years behind

and micro soft and its ever making cash machine will keep on doing it as it generates cash revenue

mac is the same my mate just upgraded to the latest mac for the studio and now they have dropped fire wire outputs that he has to buy a thunder bolt to fire wire interface

i say if it works dont fix it

you only change something if it stops working and if every body did the same we would see products being supported for longer

I know you meant that, but I dont have an answer, which led me to trying to get a minidump.

You are half right. Why only half ? Because youre argument has a flipside, which is this : If the no-one upgrades then nothing new ever gets fixed. If all MIDEX8 users had stayed on WinXP 32 and not reported the issue and if the guy who finally wrote the MIDEX8 x64 driver had the attitude that he was just going to stay on x32 coz it aint broken, then none of us would now have a MIDEX8 x64 driver and would be stuck on 4GB Kontakt !!

To be clear on the outcomes I expect from this post :

1) No-one else has the same problem, fidox has updates turned off and stays happy, I use other plugs instead.

OR

2) Other Win 8.1 users with the same security update have the same issue. It becomes a known position and maybe raises the chances of a fix sometime. If not fixed, we at least know its something we cant fix in Windows so dont waste anymore time on it.

Thats it.

x64 tgsxx.sys files are written with vc++ 2010 and the redistribution dlls are already packed into it;
means no redistribution needed to be installed;
all files are singed by SC cant tell about this process or its inpackt;
// ---
normally a reboot without any warning bluescreen or error message is coursed by a write operation to a buffer that is not initialiezed;

you could try to set ulli to the highest latency and then load the device;
win8 is slower than win7;
maybe the host syync outpad buffering itself is not ready;
but in this case all sys files would suffer form this probl.

if its a digitalsignatur probl. you could try to check disable force to signed driver only on winstartup_
starting scope as admin you should be even able to load unsigned files;

a security app blocking the inbuffer could be a prolbl.
course the buffer is setup but not accesable;

sorry i just tried but never switched to win8 so i cannnot recreate the probl. right now_

hope this helps

Driver signing had to be turned off to install Scope in the first place, so it was off for a week during which I had the problem. The sys files have worked OK on previous WIN8 systems. ULLI is already at highest latency. Starting as admin crashes. Not starting as admin gets 'Cannot load ....sys' errors and device non operational.

I dont think theres any security apps, I disabled them all, but will double check. Apart from that I've done enough system tweaking to exhaust the possibility that its anything I can fix.

Like I said, at the moment its really only of interest whether someone else with the same level of WIN8 update (post April 2014) does or does not have the problem.

If its only me and Fidox, we will just live with it. Meanwhile thanks all for all other input, much appreciated.

It all started, when i have updated Win 8.1 pro 64bit version with spring update KB2919355.
First , there was an issues "Slow loading-opening folders in Windows Explorer".
There were also other users with this issue, but they don't use Scope platform , they're just Win 8.1 users and not musicians.
So , we manage this to work, mostly with fix , creating new user account in Win 8.1 and it also works for me that time.
Then i installed back Scope and noticed that DASCOEFF11.sys causes me troubles, freezes, no matter what i have done.
I un-installed KB2919355 update and now everything works fine, couple months already, with not a single freeze or similar.

And therein lies the problem for me, since KB2919355 and dozens of other updates are dated the day WIN8.1 was installed from the DVD (27/JUN/2014). I click on it, and the uninstall option disappears. I suspect, on my DVD, KB2919355 is part of the build, not an installable extra.
