hi,
testing the scope reverbs in stm 2448 mixer i noticed that if i load a reverb in an internal aux the return (select channel) shows mono(L R leds moving together)
but if i load it as external effect the leds show stereo movement.... and slight defferent stereo image.... is it a matter of better usung effects externally (routing window etc...)??
stm 2448 internal and external aux
Re: stm 2448 internal and external aux
I have a vague memory of having some issues with effects inside the STM2448 Aux's.
I can't remember if it was the same as you are describing, but nowadays I connect them external to the mixer.

Re: stm 2448 internal and external aux
I would compare it as an insert in the 4896 mixer and see if the results are different.
I use the reverbs externally like outboard hardware.

I am quite satisfied with inserted effects in the STM2448. S|C must have heard some of us crying about the image compared to SpaceF and Wolf designs.
But depending on what Reverb or Delay you are going to use, the results might differ depending on what Pan Laws the developer of the effect used.
Celmos Delays sound better externally, but the Pro Vintage Delay has a phase reversal button that works really well in the inserts and AUX's which FWIW have a different imaging when compared to each other.
I would just solo a certain effect in the channel, then AUX, then externally and see what you get.
If you are summing all of the effects in the AUX channels, you'll notice they have 2 slots on the STM2448. Inserting a phase inverter, sample delay and even an EQ can have even more differing results.
I love using Warp69's Plate with a Filter/EQ. I get the various damping freq's on the reverb where I like it, which is excessive noticable highs, then cut w/ a filter or EQ until it gets close to the Lexicon PCM70's sound which is also in an AUX.
The STM2448 is a great mixer IMHO ever since it was re worked and optimized.

Re: stm 2448 internal and external aux
in fact the STM2448 aux section is "mono". aux sends are mono but returns are stereo. the best match would have been if we could send aux stereo. anyway...there are other ways that can do the job.
nowdays i use the busses. and also a second mixer(dynamic mixer) for insering effects. so i have separate channells at STM2448 and the effects at DynamicMixer.
