Lenovo ideapad for daw

Post by kensuguro »

Anyone know how ideapad Y560 performs as daw? Im inclined to think thinkpad will be better built quality but this particular ideapad has faster cpu and is cheaper. For a couple of hunreds more, i can get the top thinkpad model, built like a tank but slightly slower.

Seems to make sense to go cheap, but replace often, as these notebooks are relevant only for a couple of years..

I use a c2d 2.5ghz which runs all my projects fine so im not in desparate need for a cpu boost.. Maybe just a little bit. I could also go for a dualcore i7 since performance isnt killing me. In which case theres a tiny thinkpad thats super portable.. But rule of thumbs been, if im buying, i might as well get the best.. Ive never consciously bought a slower machine so the option sounds awkward.

My tip would be a clevo barebone from here.http://www.rjtech.com/

Configure it like you want. They work very good for audio. You can configure an i7 with a 7200rpm hd for around 1k$ Most audio Laptop Builders buy these and rebrand them.
Thats where i would look.

Edit, they are easy to upgrade as well.

Better buy now.The first mobile sandy laptops will have terrible firewire and NO express slot! I read this info at gearslutz from Scott ADK.He knows best about these things.

I got an B560 dc 2,53 - 2,8 4 GB / 500 GB. so far ok, but not ideal for a daw. Anyway it was about 500 Bucks and works.
