Heh, what a nightmare latency is, argh, maybe I'm just totally lost on the subject

Here's what I've got. A P3-700 running Logic Audio, a Pulsar II card running v3.0, 2 external synths controlled through midi coming in through ADAT, and a few VST instruments. I use ASIO24bit drivers.

The problem?
If I put one notes on exactly the same bar from each device, one from external synths, one from a pulsar synth and one from a VSTi - they all play in a window of about 20ms, instead of bang on target at the same time. Is that what to expect? I've found that I can manually set + or - delay on the individual tracks in logic (not on the VSTi's though, just the Pulsar channels and for external synths) - is this the only way to do it?

I read that CuBase user has an "Audio to Midi" delay function is that the same sort of thing the channel delay I am using is all about?

I'd prefer to have the highest setting in ULLI as I am not in need of fast response when using my keyboard (I step edit everything), I'd rather give the PC more time to prepare and process the audio if I could just get the different devices to sync with a preset delay.

Thanks,
Stefan
(Does any of what I wrote make sence??

It makes sense to me. The VSTi:s don't have any +/- as that is taken care of by Cubase so they are always sample-accurate. On playback that is. There is also latency in synts (not analog running on cv but that is another story) i've hard that the Waldorf Q has 7 ms (that may or may not be true) and your Pulsar card has the latency you set in the ULLI.

So where does this all lead? The VSTi is spot on, the Waldorf Q is 7 ms late and the Pulsar is (i don't care about latency, use the highest setting) 25 ms late.
So you'd have to compensate for that. However the audio-midi setting will delay everything the same amount so you'd better do it track by track.
You should be able to do this once and for all so you don't have to redo it.

(I'll have to change my location to Sweden lives in England =)

Okay, that explained alot actually, at least I got it confirmed! I would have thought the VSTi's had loads of latency, but it makes sence what you say, that it's taken care of by the sequencer and uses that as "time zero" or something? I'll have to do track by track and save it as autoload in logic I suppose.

Also, I noticed that there isn't a constant latency either, the pulsar synths I was using while testing (Inferno) could be delayed anything from 2ms to 8ms.

If anyone else has opinions about the issue I would be very glad to hear them - maybe there are plenty of solutions?

Thanks,
Stefan
