After reading the thread on daw controllers I was thinking on a faster way of mapping controls.
Imagine the following procedure:
- CTRL left click the knob you want to assign CC
- Turn the knob on your midi controller
- The chosen knob automaticly accept the first incomming CC
Perhaps CTRL left click can be improved. Midi map mpde where a simple click would pop up the midi learn box.
Many many variations possbile on this idea. I wonder if its something which would actually improve usability of the platform.

Re: Improved Midi Mapping
What you're describing is how MIDI controls are assigned in SFP already, right? You just right-click (or ctrl-left on Mac) on the control you want to assign, move the control on your MIDI controller and the CC should show up in the "new" field. Then press the "assign" button and you're mapped.

MIDI CC assignment is a bit shitty- I like your method
Re: Improved Midi Mapping
Yeah, it took me awhile to figure out I had to press the "+" button to make the assignment stick! Well, thankfully with my new Nocturn and Automap software, those days are over! As long as you're using XTC mode, there are two ways to learn the Scope plug-ins. First way is to enable learn mode on the Nocturn, move the control on the Scope device, then touch the control on the Nocturn device and it's mapped. Second way is to click on a control on the Automap window, click in the Parameter field which brings up a list of all the available parameters exposed from the Scope device, select one of the parameters and it's mapped. No MIDI CCs to worry about. Of course, you must be in XTC mode for this to work. If you're in native Scope mode, you have to revert back to the old MIDI CC assignment method.

Re: Improved Midi Mapping
Yes, better midi mapping, such as suggested by Francis, is essential because pressing that + button is a click too far and interupts workflow. Clicking that @#*! button for every assignment for every instrument every time I want to control it and the mapping window doesn't always stay on top of the screen either! Arrrrrggggghhhhhh
Perhaps just stopping the midi assignment window from disappearing with every assignment so it was a permenant window like the midi monitor window etc, That way you could click the control to be assigned and just click the + button on the midi mapping window. I know this is not exactly less clicking but it would prevent having to visually search for the mapping window each time. Even small savings are less of an interuption to intuitive working
Combining these two ideas would be ideal IMO
ps. Can anyone point me to a description of the Controller Settings dialog where you can adjust the MIDI controller assignments as I am wondering if this window may hold an answer to the midi assignment problem even if temporarily and I've yet to use this dialog window
