Scope based hardware project.

I have started a blog about this thing i have been collecting parts for and now started building in earnest.
It uses a pulsar 1 card in a slightly unusual way.

It may help explain the lack of devices lately from me :D

I'm concerned about overall PCI bus line lengths coming from the motherboard up through the bend connector into the P1.
Not sure if older Pulsars can handle longer line lengths or not. The PCI spec. is pretty specific about these types of things :P

well if worse comes to worse, ill just put it in a Shuttle cube. but an inch of PCI slottage shouldn't be much different from the next one along on the motherboard if it had one. thats a good quality PCI riser there, made in china by slaves who never even knew what they made.

Crafty!

I've always wondered about the potential for bodging some 'hardware' out of a mini motherboard and a Scope card - I guess as long as the routing doesn't change, you can come up with a stripped-down Windows install and all you have to do is turn the thing on... right? Are you writing an embedded XP for it or something?

that 27 second boot up sequence definitely made me go "whoah!"
Can one just replace one's normal system hd with one of these and get a similar result on a regular pc?

sure you can, it might be even faster, This is not a fancy CPU or anything, and not a high end SSD. just make sure you get an Intel or Indilinx based one and not jmicron.

windows is pretty standard wih only security center, help and support, and wireless zero disabled.

Yes, the artical is a compilation written by the only guy over there I trust for reviews.
When Anand Shimpli is happy, it's time to buy.
I learned from the AMD 785G announcement what a bunch of shills these sites have become.
But Anand Shimpli is the man, and any article he writes is from thorough testing and experience. He has been writing this article since SSD's first showed up.

There is an update, and i have had the mini ITX running a self sequence modular drum machine patch trough a masterverb and PCI based delay for 3 hours now.
it looks like the Mini ITX might do the job!

I have been running some PCI /PC RAM based plugins for a while (almost 4.5 hours) with the riser now and still no BSOD or crash. probably longer than i could run them for on my main scope rig (36DSP), i tend to shy away from PCI delays/reverbs and use external boxes for them.

There is a little update on the blog, i used a bunch of stuff from a company called "pulsar professional" coincidentally!
now i can make circuit boards with a $60 laser printer, a $80 laminator and various cleaners and chemicals.
the paper is amazing, you put it through the laminator with the board and then drop the board in some water, the paper just floats off leaving the toner on the board.

I will also be able to make "scope to CV" boards now very easy!

I'm working on something similar (Neutron, we should trade notes). Am aiming for 16 channels of quick-ish CV for filter frequency, and two relatively slow channels of CV for filter Q.

Think CS80 :)
