Whats the best Scope EQ

Post by stephentedsmith »

I'm looking for some Scope EQ's for general recording studio use. Whats the best one out their?

I after something that can add high end without sounding too harsh or processed.

there are many choices, but maybe try psy Q first for what you want to do. Not really an eq as such, but it does nice things with the highs.

Will definitly try Wolfs Speqtrum and D-Vice ISON as they are both available as a demo.

Having been using PSYQ for years and it can do some great things.

The DAS "vintage" EQs are really nice and musical. The new "Legend" is worth a try too.
Dynapara M/S is also a really interesting EQ .

DAS and Wolf have made great compressors, which also leads to great EQ's.
I actually like the new SC-EQ S for channel and AUX tweaks in a live project.
It uses a ridiculously low amount of DSP, and it is designed wisely as each band can be disabled for select frequencies and even less DSP usuage.
For giving a nice analog buzz to a dull sounding synth the DAS Polteq is beautiful.
For making a Grand Piano sound like 3D the DAS DynaPara is nice due to it's Mid/Side design.
Wolf's Spectrum is a great surgical tool with no coloring.
I have never heard the ISON, but if Astroman says it's good, he's a real stickler on details, so it's probably a top shelf product.
I wish someone would do a demo of it for us one of these days...........
I use to use a UE-100 Tube EQ years ago w/ a Moog Lab Series Amp and it was really powerful in the low end and added volume like nobody's business, but truthfully I have to say I like the transparency of virtual eq's. Of course I like coloring sometimes, but I have so many tube and valve plug ins that I can use both simultaneously and get really good results considering it's all fake & software...

the detail part is correct, but I'm actually more of an EQ avoider than user...
In this context I stick with Gary's conservative attitude of 'get the source right in the recording' :D
To be honest I only bought ISON because it was (still is?) the only EQ in Scope to feature a Q factor below 0.7
It does suffer from the user interface, tho - but Simon has it's style and it's his decision.
Actually when using ISON (in those rare cases) on instruments I could dial in a very pleasing tone with few effort and better results than the stock parametric eq.

Anyway, I'm not an EQ wizz, let alone one of those top-40-femal-voice-tweakers
well Jimmy, that reminds me on a mega-cute chick with a similar name as yours
still live with less sh*tty ambience

cheers, Tom

nasty boy... :D
to be honest, after reading the last paragraph of my post above... I don't get it myself. :D

actually Kate has a great voice, that needs few processing if any at all.
opposed to the typical top-40 voice that's entirely overprocessed and horribly eq'ed

cheers, Tom

Das master it EQ

Post by Wired »

This eq is the best out of all the possible eq's in scope, ....the low end, unmatchable, plus u get mid side equing, ....i have SSl's duende, and that is a hard one to match, but master it does match it!.

... I read quite the same than you, Firubbi!

... So, what is the best EQ in Scope?
Would it be Wolf's (interesting design with spectre analysis)?
DAS's (what is it like)?
D-Vice ISON (same)?
The Stock's (can be more than useful)?
Other's (third-party's, dynamic like MOVEQ and modular stuff, no offence as it could last a whole life to try and list them all)?

My 2 cents:
Jimmy gave us a hint - It all depends about what you want to use it for.

havent tried ison's, ...the thing is, it comes down to the algo's, ....i like ssl's duende, and that duende board has tiger sharc's (the fast ones), and ssl 's algo's from one of their main consoles, not an emulation, but actual same programming, , eg, see Craig Andertons review.

Try 55 hz on a kick, and you will see that why algo's make a difference, that being said, Master it eq and C350 channel strip from das for the coin is worth it, ....along with spacef's Fat inserts and u have some nice productions, ...and don't forget Vinco in your chain. I have bx digital too, but it seems it changes the position of a left panned instrument to the centre vs Master it eq. ...Anyway, there is lots out there, ..its close enuf with the scope stuff too, ...but you wont' regret buying master it, ...cause it has the m/s mixing too!, get a demo and try it all!
