XOR ASSISTANCE PLEASE.

Post by dawman »

I am getting total screen freezes when I try to assign a MIDI CC ( 01 ModWhl ) to the LFO2 Slider on the XOR.
I was hoping someone could verify this for me if they had XOR.
I am starting to use Modular devices to automate long filter sweeps, etc.
Using the LFO 2 MIDI device from at0mm and SpaceF's CC2 combined I can get some really cool automations.
Using one Oscillator with a Block OSC and a setting of 6, and the second Osc a Morphing Oscillator I can get a Combed Filter Sweep that sounds really unique.

At any rate I need to know if this problem can be duplicated so I can bust Assaf's balls a little.
Some sliders work fine, but the one I really need to control doesn't and it is pictured below.

Hey Jimmy

Thanks for all the XCITE / scope 5 details & pics. Much appreciated.

I just tried this but on mod mixer 1 LFO2 CC106 and it has totally crashed scope! :o

Tried it on RM vol in the mixer and it worked fine. Guess there is a bug. Have you already reported it to Red?

Take it easy

Nope but I needed a good reason bust his balls so thanks...............
I am glad you're still 'round ain't seen hide nor hair of you for a while.

I thought is was because of the Modular devices I am controlling it with but even disconnected it seems to happen.
This synth was built to be modulated and automated.
I am getting some incredible sounds as if 2 people were controlling some Giant Modular synth or something, cool shit Fo Sho.

Here's some slight modifications I have done to the default/load preset w/XOR.
I only changed the 1st Oscillator from Morph to Wide and added the blue mods.
I then chose 2 voices w/ an 8 voice unison, and 10% detuning.

at0m's LFO 2 MIDI device is routed to SpaceF's CC2 and using opposite curves, I can have the Oscillator knobs rotate in opposite directions and it really sounds cool.
It sounds pretty close to a real analog synth.
I wanted to automate the sliders and that's when I found our little bug.
But using the devices above for automating different parameters you can get some very unique sounds.

Hehe sounds nice and phat Mr V.

Ive been here all along - lurking. Was just feeling very sociable last night

I was using a MIDI keyboard via logic to control it when it crashed. Only a minor blemish to a fantastic synth. No doubt Red will get it sorted.

Here's another little sound I use live for supporting our vocalist/guitarist.
We do so much stuff for Guitar I am getting a decent workout keeping up with this guy on double leads, etc.
It's the usual live stereo recording using delay via the Expression pedal.
Modular is causing the cool auto wah but instead of frequency or resonance, the Morphing of the Oscillators provides the sound. So it has a synth attack and then the effect kicks in thanks to the rate being automated by the LFO 2 MIDI Modular Patch.

Damn.........ya' busted me. I was hoping nobody would recognize it and think I was an original kinda guy..
Sadly I only have good ideas when I am performing live, that's why I record everynight.
Well since you like Weather Report here's Joey Z's ( R.I.P. ) solo from Live In Tokyo.
Couple of clunkers and I forgot where I was once, but I just wanted you to hear your morphing Oscillators in action.
Back and forth knobs using a Square and a Pulse.

Impressive as always, Jimmy.

Would I dare to ask you what patch you used on Xor for the Seq like track?

I make my own presets.
I only need 2 voices though because of the % based detuning.
The extra voices just add more chorusy coloring, so I stick w/ 2.
You'll need the LFOtoMIDI Patch from the Modular devices thread, and SpaceF's CC2 from his website.

http://www.spacef-devices.com/index.php ... s&Itemid=1

It's a little confusing at first if you need any help let me know.

Each Oscillator knob gets a CC attached, and make sure the faders on CC2 go opposite directions for the maximum effect. The curves can be Linear R and Linear, or other choices as well.

Oscillator drift using virtual analog is a good feature but I have never seen it yet, so I just do it myself on synths that have a way to attach a CC to it.
Using the Modular LFO to MIDI patch you can have 2 x CC2's and use 3 of the 4 assignments to get a good drift and morphing of the Oscillarots simultaneously.
Setting the velocity curves and offset of the CC attached to the detune %, I can go from 0-22 at the rate of the LFO to MIDI device.
It sounds pretty cool and my hands are totally free to do other chores.

Sound like some of the synth patches used in some excellent psy trance tracks I like (Infected Mushrooms, which had great ideas on their "classical mushrooms" album), explaining why I wanted to test that at mine.
So your last extract sounds epic with this timbre, just like on their album!

Thanks again.

Is the name of the group Infected Mushrooms.?
That's a great name, and I sure could use some inspiring tracks.

Yep. The most mystical album of theirs is (in my humble opinion) the "Classical Mushroom" but they made quite some few other killer things since this one. One does or doesn't like but it's still their own special touch.

I recommend classical because it's so close to the notes you just made that it could indeed "trap" you in its spirit :P

Nice tip.
Now this is music I can enjoy.
If this is Psy Trance I have enjoyed this type of music since the Wendy Carlos album I had years ago.
I can't seem to find a way to buy the older material so I am calling them to buy a few of their CD's.
I would love to play this kind of music live.
I am falling into a rut again as I have to play what the 40+ plus crowd likes. It is fun but I don't even have to look at my keyboards I have played this stuff so much.
I can't see buying mp3's when I can have a nice redbook CD instead of the convenient lo-fi stuff.
I have the Sonalksis TBK2 plug in for live lo-fi vocal effects and it works awesome, so I can always run the CD through that if I need a degraded quality....................
You know I can't even find a record store anymore, and I hate buying music at WalMart, I feel like a nerd flipping through dozens of CD's of groups I have never heard of before.

Thanks Brosky

40+ crowd is OK if you find yourself launching some lush wavetable pads at them or play some good soul/jazzy/blues stuff like the one you made us hear around here :D.

Else, maybe via their shop, you'd be able to "listen" (compressed streaming) to some and order then, if you like it, but I think there is only their last album on the shop...

here then (I'm not their agent by the way)
