connecting cubase

Post by ark »

Hi could someone show me how to connect my scope up so i can playback from cubase and record in cubase.
I do not have the ADAT extension.i have a yamaha 01x which is using digital in/out into the scope soundcard.
I need to be able to use the moduels in the routing window to connect to cubase so i can hear whats coming out of cubase also i need to be able to record into cubase via the yamaha line/mic inputs.
Can someone show me a screenshot of how to connect things up.

Thank you

what version of cubase are you using?

Your ASIO source module will be your cubase output 1+2 (you can rename i/o in SX3 onwards I believe) Your ASIO destination will be the inputs. You can for future reference use the source and destination modules found in the tools section in combination with ASIO i/o to make things more clear as project size increases.

the asio modules are the jacks of cubase, as though cubase was a hardware device. the card's i/o are also in the routing window as virtual jacks. the mixer connects the exact same way as hardware. the trick is to follow the signal, as though it's water. then you will know what to connect to where by where you want the sound to go.

sound comes out of cubase through the asio source. sound goes into cubase via the asio destination. i like the asio2 24bit source with the asio2 dest, but any matching pair of asio modules will do. the trick is to decide which pair you want to use (16 or 24 bit and asio or asio2), and then have them in the routing window BEFORE opening cubase. you can change the number of ins and outs by right clicking on a (source) module, going to "surfaces" and then "channel settings". once again, you must choose how many ins and outs BEFORE opening cubase. extra(more than one stereo pair, which is really two mono ins/outs) i/o must be enabled in the vst connections dialog in cubase. you can connect or disconnect the modules as much as you like, for whatever routing purposes you may have, but you can't remove asio modules or change the type or number of i/os without closing cubase first.

Thanks to garyb for a well thought out reply. I would add that cubase 4 has no problem with ASIO i/o count being added or subtracted while open. Just need to go to the vst connections screen to assign afterwards.
