Two minor annoying issues

Post by Chisel »

My workflow with Ableton Live + Scope has been fantastic aside from two very minor yet annoying issues. I'd be forever grateful to anyone that has insight into these annoyances. BTW, I use XTC mode.

1) When I start Live, my MIDI ports aren't functional until I reset them by deselecting and reselecting them in the preferences screen. When I first enter the screen, the ports are orange. Once I click on each one twice, they turn black and are then usable. I'd like to know what is causing this and if it's possible to fix. I'm also curious if others have this issue in other sequencers.

2) Everytime I start Live there is a deafening high pitched noise that lasts a few seconds. I've trained myself to turn down the monitor volume until the program has fully loaded. Again, I'd be curious to hear others who have this issue and if it happens with other sequencers besides Live.

Thanks!

1) - We don't have that issue here using Cubase.

2) - We don't have that issue here using Cubase.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I haven't use Live here for a few years now.

I occasionally get dropped MIDI modules in Live 8, but not always.
I never have issues with high pitched nose bursts.

I NEVER have any of these issues with Samplitude.

I did a bit of troubleshooting and it appears that the noise burst only happens when I have my Behringer ADA8000s turned on before I launch Live. It probably has to do with the clock sync. Since I'm using XTC mode, Scope doesn't initialize until I launch Live, so when that happens, I get a noise burst. Easy fix is to launch Live before I flip the switch on my power strip where all my audio devices are plugged into. The MIDI issue only happens in XTC mode. There must be a timing issue where Live sees the Creamware MIDI ports, but can't initialize them during startup. As I mentioned in the original post, I've gotten used to resetting the ports in the Preferences window. Maybe I'll post about this MIDI issue in the XTC forum to see if anyone else using XTC mode has this problem.

Chisel,
You also want to make sure you have the same amount of MIDI drivers loaded as specified in Windows' Device Manager > Scope's Properties. To get this in a 'normal' Scope project is easy, in XTC I wouldn't know how that'd work.

The same goes for Wave drivers actually...

Hope this helps :)
