yes, Mojo is great as is Dynatube.
they are amplifiers. if you wish to have effects, you must use effect devices with them, like in the real world. the thing is, these amps are head and shoulders better than what else is on the market, even though other products have lots of effects. it seems like effects are an attempt to cover up the poor overall tone of the amp with some products....

I thought Dynatube emulated the cab as well.....

Imho Mojo brings enough 'cab' with the 10"-12" choice and the amount of ambience.
After all in a guitar recording you're not particularly interested in the cab sound itself, but how the instrument plays through it.
Ok, doesn't really fit the gearslut approach... (ridiculous, but not to underestimate...)

On the other hand Dynatube isn't an arm and a leg ...
In fact I doubt that Mojo ever was considered in a competitive sense at all.
I's a completely different approch with different processing options - and tonal results.

in the real world, amps never get used without cabs...

Good point. In the virtual world they can be treated as seperate entities in that you can mix and match - one thing I like about Dynatube is the ability to use say a Marshall Cab with a Mesa Boogie head.

but Marshall and Mesa don't build their cabs for nothing

imho mixing the stuff arbitrarily is the typical '... but you have the possibility...' nonsense that marketing is touting around.
It has few if anything at all to do with creativity.

i treat the cabs as eq/tone alternatives. it works quite well.

It's not a Guitar processor to me.
It's an Amp Model for my Rhodes, Wurlitzer, New Combo Organ, and straight B3 emu's. ( Booker T. & the MG's ).
It's lean too. I can add my own Spring Reverb hardware or software to it.
My hardware Spring sounds like crap routed into SFP, but a direct out to it then back into SFP to record is O.K., but the DSP spring sounds just fine.
This amp model makes my samples sound quite realistic.
My sampled content sounds much better than Joe Receptor or Joe VST/Logic.
Before I could afford a Leslie when I was a teenie bopper I used a Fender Twin, so I know and love amp sounds.
This is pretty damn close IMHO.

I think my knottsbox is the best freeware-solution. I have heard many guitar amp sims and for some things I really like knottsbox. The concept is by far not as straight forward as commercial sims, but with the presets and some easy knob movement you can get really real sounds

Hey gentlepeople, how about the variety of delays etc. available in the modular and devices forums? Or are you only using amp simulations on your guitars?
Depending on the tune, /me loves to put a modular delay in front of the amp, and give the guitarist a CV pedal inserted to Peavey PC1600x so he can control feedback from his pedal.

I wish I had tried this when I still owned my PC1600X, but it's gone now.
When Xite arrives I'll be doing a lot of this type of testing.
