Hi, I have just got my hands on a Creamware Pulsar card and have managed to get it up and running but just have a few questions. Can I use the STS samplers as VSTi instruments? I seem to be able to see my synths from within my seqencing software (Cubase Studio 4) but not the samplers. I can see the Volkssampler but not the STS's is this the same for everyone? Also The fan on my PC seems to have gone into overdrive since putting the card in today but task manager reports that the CPU is hardly loaded at all. And finally if I try to load certain soft syths into the VSTi rack from within Cubase the whole PC reboots. Any ideas would be gladly recieved.
Regards,
Ian

welcome Ian :)

as you've noticed - no STS in xtc mode, that's why there is the Volksthingy
it's not necessarily bad (I only diss the ridiculous naming...), in fact Creamware had excellent recording and processing software running natively on the CPU in the pre-Pulsar/Scope days

anyway, the card emits quite some heat which may irritate the sensors inside your computer case
the DSPs are speced to 80 degree Celsius surface temperature (if I remember correctly), but a good airflow is highly appreciated.

what type of softsynths cause the crash ? Scope plugins or native code ?

cheers, Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. You never realy know how active a list is until you join! I think I have sussed it out! I was trying to load the Poison Modular and Lightwave synths but didn't realize you need a different activation key for those....doh! I registered my card today on the main site and had a little discussion via e-mail with a guy called Ralf who was great... he sent me through a file with all the data I needed that was allowed and paid for on my Pulsar. He also gave me some links to their shop etc which will also be useful as I get more hooked!!!!! Don't know if you can help but do you happen to know what the latest drivers are for the Pulsar and where I can get them? I'm running XP on the PC but it looks like the drivers were meant for Windows2000. Also my Pulsar software is revision is 3.1, do you know if my old card will run any of the "scope" stuff? I am assuming it is the same thing just with a new name due to Creamware going under and the new supplier taking over a couple of years ago?
Thanks again.

Download Scope 4.0 immediately - you get it for free with 3.1c - 4.5 has all the latest drivers etc. Scope is now quite an old name (in fact CreamWare Audio introduced it) and the new company is Sonic|Core and they are continuing development, and the next stage is to drop the Scope name and introduce an update called Sonic Core Platform 5.

it's just a matter of labelling - and the content of the Win2k folder is correct for XP
They fixed a few things with Cubase (afaik), so Mr. Arkardin's suggestion for version 4 software may be a good idea .
I don't use an Asio host (usually) so I stick with 3.1 under Win98 as I'm hopelessly oldfashioned anyway - makes me probably the last one to leave the boat... :D

cheers, Tom
