Bad news from AES

Post by Shayne White »

I managed to get a free pass to the AES show in San Francisco, and since I live an hour away I decided to go see what the music world had to offer! I was actually very disappointed because most of the companies were hardware-focused, i.e. big mixer consoles and rack gear. I was looking for software plugins and synthesizers, and there was hardly any of that.

Dirk Ulrich was there promoting Brainworx, however, and I got to meet him face to face!! Unfortunately, he told me that he's focusing exclusively on native-based plugins now (and TDM? I don't remember), because it's "too difficult" to develop for Scope, he said. (There's probably not enough of a market anymore, either.) He's just ported some of SPL's hardware to plugin format -- bass enhancer, transient designer, etc. It looked really good, but it seems that his Scope days are over.

Let us hope that when Xite is released, it will generate new interest in the platform. :o

you are right stardust. sfp is 100% protected from hackers. developers like Brainworks should focus more with scope.

Greg, I can only see 2 reasons why SC wouldn't be there:-

1. They're extremely busy working on XITE, Solaris & Scope 5.
2. It would have been very expensive to attend the show & possibly not money well spent at this time.

Mine too, so that's why it was No.1.

These shows/exhibitions are very expensive to attend though, especially if there's no government or local development funding available specifically for the show.

Trust me guys, I think SC will reveal the product here first, we will not be the last to know.

And thanks Shroomz for your devices,
Guys like you are keeping me occupied until the ice breaks.
Just from putting this group together and using Scope as a live PA / Monitor / Mixer / Recording console and synthesizer player has kept me so busy I haven't had time to wonder, and when I get a little depressed about Solaris and XITE-1, and especially the sale of my Lexicons, I only need go to the device section and see a new treat or two that makes me smile.

Decimator is sick,

Thank You.

It would be great to see a video of you at work :)
Some screenshots and/or upload project files that you use (or some derivation thereof), maybe?

Yeah, my studio is plenty busy, and still runs on 10-year old cards - I'm just anxious to get more mobile with Xite and a laptop :D .

 I have my moments of pleasure, but then all bets are off as soon as a whiny musician asks for more hi hat in his ears or the singer's usual request for excessive reverb, They really know how to ruin my night. I use to be much busier when I loaded racks of samplers and ran lights, and changed vocal effects w/ a hardware sequencer. Gigastudio saved me from that.

A video?....Ladies and Gentlemen...JimmyV. Star of Stage and Screen. Sometimes I feel like a monkey fucking a football, but the recordings have proven my subconcious is still quite intact.

My project windows are totally insane even using 2 DAW's and 2 x LCD's. That is a concern of mine w/ XITE-1. The simple synth projects I use to run were so pretty with straight lines, etc. Now I am the only one who knows where things go. The project windows for XITE-1 will need to have orbital provisions like the architechtural designers use in AutoCAD. More screen space like a 52" LCD would be cool, but just like Spock had to play 4 level Chess games I think we will need 3D or muliple paging systems like JGamble's designs have.

I have no video camera or app, but maybe GaryB can pose as a producer since the casinos do not allow pictures or filming w/o permission or supervision, But there are no video poker games at the club, which is a blessing as people can clap when they aren't pushing buttons or pulling levers. Even w/o XITE-1 and the 5.1 live dream I had we are still the talk of the town up here. At least until the Elvis impersonators and Male Joan Rivers impersonator comes back.
