I'm a bit lost here... There are so many options and I don't really understand the differences between the products... What do you think I would need to ensure stability and reliability for my live rig? I have these battery backup things, are they of any use?
Thanks for the help!
powr conditioner for live rig
Re: powr conditioner for live rig
battery backup(UPS) is perfect if it is of sufficient wattage and gauruntees a specific voltage out. this would likely be the cheapest solution. real power conditioners are expensive. more of the things called power conditioners are only surge suppressors....
Re: powr conditioner for live rig
All of the " Big Pro Tools Accelerator Rigs ", use these, and for good reason. 64 channel analog switchers that play simultaneous DAW's, both w/ UPS and the 2U 20 Amp/120v racks.
Us Scope guys only need a Furman PL Plus, or a Juice Goose. If your rig dies, just have a hardware modula available to get out of the crash w/ honor.
In 24 years of having sequencers and FDD samplers, I had one crash due to the Casino switching generators. The Oberheim DMX and QX-1 didn't miss a beat, but the Emulators and Mirage had to re boot. With Cubase, it can crash all by itself w/o a surge/spike, and definately will crash since the PC/Mac must reboot. A small Rompler module or keyboard is all one would need.
4 years ago I went through the same stuff you are doing right now, and found out after spending too much money that Scope NEVER crashes live, and RAID sucks. I had 2 DAW's to make sure if anything happened the show would go on. But truthfully, it won't happen, and to be really honest, unless there's VIP's or a packed dance floor full of fine trim.......I don't give a fuck.
You'll be fine. But here's how they do it on the big jobs.
