Ordering PC for Scope. Last minute suggestions? Video card?

Post by sodiumcycle »

Finally finishing my audio setup. Here is what I'm getting:

Intel P35DPM MB
Core 2 Duo 3.16 ghz
4 gigs Crucial Ram
1TB Samsung HD
PC Power & Cooling Silencer PS
Cheapo 4U Rackmount Case

Good discrete video card? Silent power supply? Quiet CPU heatsink/fan?

Will the stock Intel heatsink/fan be quiet enough for recording?

Hopefully this will be my last post for a while since I wil be busy making music. Thanks in advance.

for video cards i recommend evga nvidia cards. get one under $100.

as for the ram, that motherboard requires 1.8vlt ram ONLY. kingston value ram is available in that voltage and works great. mushkin also makes 1.8vlt ram if you must have the heatspreaders. i believe ocz also has 1.8vlt ram.

the stock cooler is very quiet. i reccomend a core2 duo over the quad. you'll save money and heat and you'll se very little difference in performance....

I have a Matrox Parhelia APVe (PCIe).. supports 3 screens and it's great for working.

It has a small fan on it, though it's discrete.. It could easily be changed for a passive sink since the gpu doesn't heat that much (unless doing heavy 3D stuff).

Another good option are the Matrox Millenium series (PCIe and passive cooling), with support for up to 4 screens (or more by teaming cards).

They are a bit more expensive than cheap NVidias, but definetly worth (less buggy drivers, better multi-screen handling, very reliable)

the cards i recommended have been flawless for me and the drivers are always good in my experience, but matrox is a top quality product. by all means, if matrox parhelia fits your budget, it's worth considering.
