i use stm4896.
i have made a few different configurations and i would ask for a little help concerning scopes busses.

what is the need for?

You can use 'em for groups. Kit, backing vox, anything. Get a bunch of tracks routed to a buss, get 'em set individually and then boost or attenuate just the group fader/pot rather than a fistful of many individual faders. Apply FX to a whole group at once. Say you got 5 backing vox tracks, rather than applying FX and gain changes to each track, which is a pain, get 'em on a buss and treat them as one stereo track. Then only 2 knobs/faders to move rather than 10.

I think folks call 'em stems these days. Stems used to come with seeds at the bottom of the packet in days gone by. As in, "Down To Seeds And Stems Again Blues."

busses are also handy for sending signals to the recorder, if you don't need more than 8.

they're good for the same things as in the hardware world.
