A question about the cable.

Post by BraveSirNivek »

I thinking it would be nice to connect a microphone to my pulsar setup but the cable i got with my pulsar 1 card is not the one with the mic inputs... So, I think the cable-cluster-thingy I need is the one that ships/shipped with the pulsar 2+ but if I could get hold of the cable only, will it work out well with my pulsar 1 ?

anyone?

there is NO mic input on a pulsar1 or pulsar2.

the xlr option is line level balanced, not mic level.

the cables are not interchangable.

both cable types require a microphone preamp(or mixer) to make the microphone level into line level before the sound goes into the card.

all true.

on the pulsar connectors though, none are for mics, even if they are xlr type connectors...

not all xlr connectors are for microphones.

So here I am thinking I know stuff, when in fact, I dont. (again:)

I do understand what you're all saying but for the sake of argument, I checked out
the soniccore shop and found (I mean: I think I've found) that if I really really wanted the special xlr cablething I could buy the PlusI/O plate with 20 ins and outs and hook it up with my existing pulsar's yes?
Its too expensive anyway, I guess for that price I could get a more than decent mixer to suit my needs. I'll probably get 2. And a microphone.

I will have a closer look at mixers next..

Thank you all for helping out.
It seems I learn something new everyday.. I guess its part of what makes life interesting :)
