Was just looking into this Compressor after remembering it can act as a frequency compressor.
On this point how does it act in RMS mode? how much of the audio signal does this device have to "hear" and how does it deal with it regarding phase etc?
Would like to know more about using it properly.Tje manual surfaces the uses but I think this is a great device and the only one of its kind, even against VST ones.
If anyone has any tips and tricks I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks

Re: Wolf's Kompressor
The tips are in the presets. Wolf's included a whole stack of them covering most of the bases which should help you out.Music Manic wrote:If anyone has any tips and tricks I would appreciate hearing them.

Technically the same way as it works, if you feed it in peak mode. It simply takes the rms values instead of peak values for the compression amount. On this point how does it act in RMS mode?
In other words it conforms more to the way the human ear compresses.
For example faster transients aren't taken into account that much -> compression acts more on the "body" of the sound.
as with any compressor you should use as much as possible of the available range to make good use of the treshold parameter. You can let show an input poti to adjust the innput level to your needs.how much of the audio signal does this device have to "hear"
I don't exactly know what you mean here, but there are different possibilities:and how does it deal with it regarding phase etc?
1. mono detection (stereo input is summed & used for detection)
2. stereo detection (true stereo -> can lead to different compression on left&right and therefor movements in the stereo image), a nice mode to go wild.
3. mid-side detection, either by feeding the mid signal only into detection stage or
4. both mid & side separately from each other
All detection modes as well as the whole comp are completely phase compensated (all this wouldn't be possible otherwise).
However the 2nd mode can introduce wider & unexpected panning movements, the 4rth mode widens/narrows the stereo image dependant on settings & input.
Having said that the spectral mode, you mentioned, has no impact on phase between left&right in all cases.it can act as a frequency compressor.
But it *has* an impact on panning and stereo image wideness, if the above mentioned modes are active.
indeedThe tips are in the presets.

best,
