Playing catch up

Post by Neil B »

I'm still using 3.1c
I seem to remember downlaoding 4.0 or whatever but never installing or applying for the keys.
I think it was duing one of those Creamware transitions so I thought I'd wait until they sorted themselves out and then never got around to it.

Mr Arkadin suggests it's worth doing for the extras so:

1. What are the extras please?

2. Is the current free upgrade 4.0 or 4.5 (I seem to remember 4.5 costs money)?

3. What's the process now for upgrading?
Contact Ralf? Where?

Sorry to be a pain to all the up to date afficianados

i can't remember the differences, but also worth noting is that you can have a 3.1c folder and a 4.0 folder on the same system quite happily. Just make two shortcuts and you can try 4.0 without losing any of your 3.1c stuff - so you can try it gradually. It's not much different so i'm sure you'll just forget about 3.1c - i did.

Get new keys from Ralf before installing 4.0 as there are a few extras you won't see unless you have the latest keys.

Scope 5 is going to be free to 4.5 users, so it might be worth seeing which works out cheaper, getting 4.5 now or waiting for 5.0. Anyway get 4.0 for free for now.

if your system is running flawless with 3.1c there's nothing that version 4 will have to offer. Really nothing at all... ;)
The key for version 4.0 is free.

nevertheless there may be a few fixes inside to help with specific troubles (there's a wide range of OS-Mobo-Sequencer combinations...), but of course without trouble there's few to fix ... :D

Version 4.5 is technically identical to 4.0 and the (free) 4.0 key works for the 4.5 download.
The .5 extension does nothing but activate a handful of plugins bundled - and this bundle could be very attractive, depending on which card and software you have.

Actually I really had to contemplate a moment to remember which version I have installed... :D

cheers, Tom

Thanks folks - I suppose I'd better catch up, but I hate disturbing systems that are so stable.

I think the big thing for me about upgrading is that I have all my folders nicely organised and all the extra downloads etc and normally it takes ages to prove everything is working fine again.

All i do is keep a copy of all my organised folders (i change the defaults quite a bit) and do an install, keep a copy of any new devices that pop up and just copy over your own organised folders over the default ones. Add new devices to your folders et voila! Easy peasy.

Question 1 - Can I go from 3.1c straight to 4.5 or should I install 4.0 first?

Question 2 - I have a zip of Version 4 from Oct 2005 I think - should I download a more up to date version or hasn't it changes?

Question 3 - can I have Ralfs email address please and what details to I have to send him before he'll let me have the keys?

As you guessed - I've decided to go for it ahead of version 5.

Thanks folks

1. Yes you can go straight to 4.5. In fact 4.5 includes 4.0 anyway.

2. i would personally always download the latest, i doubt if anything's changed though.

3. rb(at)soniccore.com . Send him your hardware's serial number, he'll send you the new allkeys file.

well, take a look at your allkeys file as you may already have a Scope 4 key...
a couple of years ago there was a promotion that you if you registered for Scope 4 (free), then you were entitled to one plugin of choice for half the price from the online-shop.
later the promo was filed as the (in)famous 'shop-bug' as you could repeat the process as often as you liked... I guess they never sold more plugins :D

if you didn't take advantage then Ralf needs the serial number of your board
his address is rb -at- soniccore.de
the basic key works with both 4 and 4.5 for the SFP software, just the additional plugins aren't activated if you don't qualifyfor a 'full' update - depends on what board(s) you have and probably a few other conditions...

cheers, Tom

interesting...
my promo price was showing when I registered 4.0, but vanished as soon as I wanted to do the payment...
was sorted out properly by ralf and friends (and the fax machine), and I even got my plugin for 75% off since it was improperly priced.... :)
(they fixed the price soon after that).
