Doing whole songs EXCLUSIVELY in the SFP (fleXor)

Post by voidar »

Does anybody do this without the aid of DAW-software?

I was kind of flirting with the idea, as my latest project just involve recorded loops and MIDI-programmed beats, even though song-structure is traditional.

If people do electronic music this way (like trance), then surely I can translate the process to my industrial dirge/doom?

I do understand the concept of ramps, but I could need some help in setting up a project like this. Like I might need a sample to be played at a given moment in my song. How would you set this up?

I just want to wire it up and press pless and listen to the thing go :).

I currently have mIII and fleXor 2.5; think I will upgrade to 3 soon though.
My DSP-count is 26/27.

OK. Realisticaly I would just compose like this, then dumt it down to VDAT, then open up a new project and mix everything. Probably in a DAW-software.

Have you tried this one? It's more proof of concept than a hit single ;) I had/have a more extensive version that uses my full 21 DSP's, but since that would be useable only on a minority of setups here, I stripped it down quite a lot.
Let it be an inspiration!

Yes, that's actually the one that inspired me (I think), though I have only listened to the mp3.
I just bought flexor 3. I think I need the freq 2 note modules. I hope this is what I think it is, a freq to midi thing. I might be wrong though.

Thing is, I want to sequence midi synths/samplers via ramps.

I'd like to work this way. We already have done a lot of live takes purely in Scope with the aid of VDAT, but mainly recording an SPS-1 & hardware synth or 2, not the modular enviroment, although when we get Flexor I'm sure we'll be doing a lot of exactly what your talking about here.

Also, I'd like to make some Flexor ramp compatible Scope devices at some point. For example, some unusual FX with ramp syncable modulation options, that type of thing.

That would be so cool Shroomz :).

But I would also like to see a note/gate to MIDI thing. Or even better, ramp-driven (note/gate) sampleplayers.
