Who Uses ProWave From Zarg
I am interested why I don't hear about people raving on this incredible synth.
I have some great ideas for recording w/ this, and use these same techniques live for really astounding vintage emu's, as well as futuristic soundscpaes that use wave-sweeping for constant timbre and additive pitch changing, while using an expression pedal, or ribbon controller.
External samples work remarkably well in the Sample Oscillators. When these get mixed w/ Ben Walkers JD800's, and John's own RDII series modules, this synth transforms into many synths other than a super Prophet V.
There are even ways to use this in Modular.
Let me know how you use ProWave, I have seen some replies, but don't understand why this synth didn't take over the threads w/ joy.
If you have RDII, and JD800 WAV.'s these are great weapons to start with. John included the fantastic Waldorf Pair II in the Oscillator section which is two Waldorf Oscillators that will fit in an Oscillator slot, while using other stock Oscillators in the Oscillator 2's slot.
I have a wave-sweeper called Fairlight Moods that sounds awesome when swept. You can hold a chord by using the sustain pedal, then use the PBend wheel to change pitch. The wave sweeps do timbre and pitch and using an expression pedal. A single sustained triad can bring in and out timbre / pitch changes and operate hands free, while you play another synth and have both hands free.
On Well, there it is.

I want the semi modular version of ProWave, ProWave modular I think it's called. Like you, I can't understand why there aren't people raving about a synth with such awsome potential. It has to be unmatched in terms of it's flexibility, ease of use & sonic capabilities. I can only imagine that in combination with Flexor you'd have something very special & unique.
My only request would be that only the IO panel of ProWave modular actually displays inside the mod shell. That would leave much more space for people to build patches around it. The main synth panel with all the edit optons & pots could just be floating & be able to be opened & closed from the IO panel. Just a suggestion !!

I can't say I agree with that philosophy at all. I don't have it either, but as I said above... I want it. These unwritten rules aren't very productive Stardust. So now a new plugin comes out & none of us on the forum should be talking about it until we've bought it? That seems odd.stardust wrote:I dont have it, therefore I dont talk about it.
I have attached some new footpedals to the ProWave for bending the sound in real time.
All I can say is that a patch which has the CEM Oscillator, and the RDII slot housing the Waldorf Pair II Oscillators just creates immense, lush moving curtains of sound. I am sure Solaris can do this, it's just that dog is too large of a hunter. Like sending an Aikita after a rodent. I prefer the Bloodhounds vrs. the Fox approach hunting techniques. Hardware Solaris will be the synth when it arrives.
But I am preparing for battle with the Prowave, as it is a cut down live performance synth IMO.
Imagine sweeping waveforms on 2 Waldorf Wave Oscillators at once, while changing and sweeping the cutoff filter and resonance on the CEM Oscillator, then taking your unison mode to 2 voice, which at 8 voice poly will give you 4 massive voices. As if that weren't enough, add the SSB Modulator, and Celmo's Tape Simulator in the insert effects rack. Jesus H. Christ !!! I have played the same patch till I fell asleep last night, and I woke up and am tripping out w/ it's variations as we speak.
I guarentee that John's FAT FUCKERS like Solaris, QWave, and ProWave have pretty much the same sonic palette, i.e.WAVE OSC, CEM, Sample OSC, etc.
So when hardware Solaris arrives, my sick ass curtains of sound will be played on it, w/ all of these separate pedals controlling whatever I need at the moment.
It's no wonder that local producers are courting me to do their cheezy shows.
I took their invitation to their productions a few times now, and can only say, it is the first time I passed up a high paying gig. But my rig and I myself must perform and improvise, not play the same crap every night. That would only deaden my motivation and cause increased levels of jager consumption.
I will use this rig for less money to play where and when I chose. End of story.

Shroomz, II, the modular version comes together with the stand-alone device, I don't know if you can order it seperately... But what you see is what you get, the whole interface is loaded and you have the patch insert points in strategic positions...
The Pro-Wave itself is already very flexible, with syncable looping envelopes and a much more capable modulation section than the Pro-12. Add to that the fact that you can load SpaceF sattelites and RD modules for osc or filters, and use the built-in effects or the 5 or 6 insert slots, and you start to get the picture. A bit like SpaceF's BiOsc, it's a sort of Mini-Modular...
I have one Pro-Wave, I bought it to replace the Pro-12 and its hanging notes, and I never looked back. Ok, so the wood in the Pro 12 may look a little better, but soundwise, the pro-wave is a golden one, from the oscs, to the filters, to the FX- it's my first choice for a solo instrument, for sounds that have to stand out and be up front, as I find it sounds its best with bright, shimmering tones. Some dronish textures also, with the looping eg, and the unison mode can easily get you a fat tone, as each voice is replicated and detuned.
best tip: if you don't have version 1.2, go get it, as the new filter models are awsome.

Brotha' Man Tau,
Would you mind posting a pic of a Modular patch using ProWave Modular?
I am well versed w/ Prowave, and wish to use it in Modular. It is my favorite live synth.
I have Flexor III, so can I load those modules also?
This would be really great.
I am re doing my DAW to handle a 32 channel mixer for Gigastudio 4. I will use Prowave Modular, B2003, external FX, and the SE-1x w/ Pro One Vrs.3.0.
That leaves me 28 stereo channels for sampled content.
GaryB will do the new hardware upgrade in late December using the new 45nm CPU, and the X38 motherboard. Gigastudio 4 will host all VSTi's now, and is definately multi-core optimised.
With hardware Solaris around the corner I am downsizing to one Scope DAW. But Prowave ain't going anywhere.
A little project for a beginner in Modular would be much appreciated.
I absolutely love Zarg synths. If it wasn 't for the B2003 my DAW would be a Zarg Music DAW.

Brotha' Man FrancisHarmany,
14DSP's will be a good start. ProWave will work fine. But 16 voices being run in unison mode w/ a 2 voice callibratrion is the bomb.
I am just now getting 1.2 sent to me, and hopefully will have Modular Prowave running tonight.
There are no better sounding synths in software or hardware that I have heard, except for when doing monophonic leads, only a real analog w/ circuits can achieve that electrical buzz / drip sound. I'll never understand why DSP synths can sound so real polyphonically speaking, but loose their oooommmmpppphhh when ganged up to unison for mono work. A small thing I know. But having the real thing do monophonic work just makes the other synths come to life in a mix. That's just my ears though, as I have used analog for years and wasn't swayed easily.
I will be selling all of my analogs after Christmas. I believe Johns hardware design will be so strong that the value of my old Dogs will diminish. So while I can still get those high prices on eBay, I am afraid to say they must go. I am expecting around 8000 USD for the four synths I still have.
eBay only for these though, and all have cases ( Anvil )
Oberheim Matrix 12
Oberheim XPander
Oberheim OB8
Oberheim OBX
ARP String Ensemble
I shall mourn their departure. But I cannot justify my spending any longer while these things sit around and beg for recordings. I actually hear them cry at night.

Meanwhile back at the Ranch,
Just installed ProWave 1_2 and have to say that this was an audio upgrade for sure. I must do any new patches with the Moog LP from scratch. I tried to add it into previous favorites and it simply buzzed over everything, even after bring the Oscillator levels down !! That filter is incredibly beefy. My favorite is the SSB LP, as it has the range of sweeping that is as extreme as the CEM's, but has the right amount of Buzz, and is very powerful. I can insert it into previos powerful presets and tweak it down just a little.
The sound is very FAT. A hardware Prowave would be an awesome weapon also.
I have some free time so I must continue my quest.

Alvetazein,
OK, some screenshots from the modular pro-wave. These are just to show a few simple things about this module, and how it can be connected.
For this, I loaded a simple patch I made earlier, called "Shameless", that uses only internal filters, oscs and effects, with a tube warmer instead of the built in distortion (which I also like).
I have recorded a sample from each patch, and attached it to the next post. I hope this will help you to get a better idea of this synths' capabilities.
Much Peace,
T
EDIT: Obviously there's a mistake in Pic. 1, as the patch shown on the synth is not my patch, but one of the presets... Pic.2 shows the correct patch... sorry

- Here, we have 4 Oscillators, so we need a mixer, and SpaceF's WoodOsc has some extra volume and pitch modulation. I changed the filter to the SSM, added some pitch modulation to the Pro-wave OSC B, and got a ctrl sequencer to cycle through the wavetable

- Now, I add a Flexor Osc, that I'm going to pass through the filters. Notice that the FR OSC gets its freq signal from the Pro-Wave, which is acting as MVC. I then route the output of that to EXT IN, then change the NOISE source in MIX to EXT, and there it

- This is how the pro-Wave is loaded into modular. As you can see, there's no need for a MVC. You can load any patches inside the Pro-Wave module, it's just like using the device stand-alone.

And now for the soundfiles... Nothing really fancy, just an 8-bar line, with a gentle filter-knob twiddling. The delay is from the synth itself.
Please don't hold it against pro-Wave or JB if you don't like these sounds, as they have been through my hands. I'm sure better can be done.
Enjoy

That's Prowave? Wow.
I must connect this tonight.
Please do you have a pic of how to connect this w/ Modular?
I already have the upgrade, and the Modular version is now in the shell, but I am quite lame with the connections. I have the sound from the I.O's but trying to connect another Oscillator,....where? I do not see a connection for this. Is it even possible. I would love to hear some Flexor III with this.
A pic would really, really help me.
Thanks Brotha' Man Tau.
