Guitar tuner

Post by ElectronicaDub »

Is there a guitar tuner available for Scope? In the back of my mind, I remember one but I cannot find it here.

I remember I did one a few years back, but it was a tuning fork, ie it outputs a sin wave and you must use your ears. So it is not a chromatic guitar tuner. The dev is still cool for alternative tunings as there were some presets for open tuning and exotic instruments, or personal tunings too. The wave and the guitar string together produce that modulation that is used to tune a guitar (modulation becomes slower as you get closer to the right note). It should still be in the device section of planetz (look for " tuning fork "). otherwise i must have it somewhere. I haven't used alternative tunings for a while, so i didn't use it for the same period of time. it was cool for alternative tunings only, or when you used a special personal tuning, that you could save in a preset.
Otherwise, for "normal" guitar/bass tunings, I think it is much easier to use a real chromatic tuner box .

It's here (oh, sorry, I was too late... my tuner is here):

http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20263

With the knowledge i have now, I could build a much better one, but my time has become extremely short. It works. Hope it doesn't depend on the latency settings of scope, didn't test it concerning those. I came across those strange variations of all kinds of delays recently. In the time I build the tuner I had latency set to 25ms, so it should work at least with that setting.

You'll need a flexor registration to run it. Otherwise it won't run at all. In contrast to my other devices you can think of it as a modular device with some sdk-techniques added. So all credits go to Adern and his great Flexor invention!

No, it's not a chromatic one. It's just for the basic guitar strings... It uses Flexor I modules. Man, it was a lot of cabeling within it and I DAMN did it with async analysis, so it's a bit slow & I should have added some features for setting scales etc. With flexor III all that should be even more easy now... Give me a week with 24 h a day for all my ideas ... but I definitively don't have the time anymore...

yeah, "time is the master of men".
and the required power for precise tone analysis kind of kept me away of that area.

If anyone wants to realize that very simple idea:

Take Flexor I audio2freq module then build a network with steckies/neutrons sync if-switch which identifies frequency-ranges for the red, yellow, green led.

If frequency is above blabla show red...
If freq is above blabla and below blabla show yellow...
If freq is in the range of blabla show green...

With network I think of the possibility to easily identify octaves & co... also you don't have to set all ranges manually ... with some factors one should be able to set ranges around certain frequencies automatically... You could even add more LEDs...

b.t.w. If anybody's interested in the open old-version-device, contact me via pm.

well, how about a more temporary concept ?
don't use the base oscillation, but the overtones - and you'll get more cycles in less time ;)
not sure if there's a filter design possible or if FFT like stuff is required...

cheers, Tom

I can hear the brains working already...a lot is possible, like presets with different music style (micro-)scales, bass/guitar switch, chord settings (and dacapo), even GPS compatible etc.
It must be terribly simple to build, if I read MCCY's words well ;-D
Tho for a limited group of users (?) it would be a nice SDK product for the platform :-)

With flexor III the problems with delays are fixed, am I right?

There was some discussion some time ago about this problems in the forum, as I remember. I came across it when tryin to use my looplay with metronome-click and a new set scope latency... I wondered if my looplay was broken... by the way I made an adopted version for the latency thing, if anybody is interested....

hint Nr. 2 :
they belong together like day and night,
but if they change only one does right.

an d one last hint:
dont search on scope 4_5 devices ! SC (CW) developers knows their territory very well;
