I am puzzled by Brainrox's recent post in the announcements thread. First off, one would think that the purchasing thread would be better suited, Secondly, wasn't he a developer on CW / SC's website?
Maybe there's something cookin', like new cards. As an optimist that is my take on this. DAS's ridiculously cheap price on his bundles was a surprise as well. Maybe these CW chosen developers are sending us a subliminal message.
What's the downside then? Development on another platform that supports Vista, like VST which is already Vista ready, as well as most of the CPU and new computers being sold.
One thing is not speculation though................somebody will be feasting on Brainrox's scraps !!!

Re: Developers Bailing?
If Scope goes native then I guess the downside will be a lot worse sound being generated. When I first got my cards I was taken by the sound difference they made. Sound generated within these DSP's is top notch to my ears. Possessing a markedly better quality than native plugs. UAD have stated they are sticking to their cards even though their software could run native. DAS's sale ends on 31st August. John Bowen's site says he'll still be developing Solaris more for Scope. There's a new update due.scope4live wrote:What's the downside then?
I dunno. I got DAS's vintage eq's today and spend a long time comparing them with my UAD versions last night before buying. Talk about good value. Even at the none sale price. Sound is good.

Brotha' Man Nightscope,
A worthy name 4 battle indeed, and w/ UAD and SFP you sound prepared. Chance favours the prepared mind.
I agree with the quality of DSP versus the world as well. After all, I gave up some serious hardware, but still require hardware reverbs, and one analog SE-1x synth to maintain certain unattainable characteristics. I also have an Oberheim EDP for it's reverse capabilities as well. After all DAS, and SpaceF do have their limitations with custom devices.
You should check out SpaceF's, and Celmos delays. They can also do things that would require many units in hardware to attain, and the quality is equal. I just can't seem to let go of hardware reverbs yet, as the PCM91, and recently aquired PCM81 are routed into Scope through AES/EBU, and SP/DIF, and just sound several cuts above DSP and native IMHO. The real benefit though is that when I have used and tried DSP verbs, they seem to freeze my DAW's and since stabilty in performance is stability in income, my choices become more justified.
Hopefully SC knows what a great fanbase they have, and keep it current. But if they don't, I will use these money makers till they die. And since I still have my Oberheims, and hardware sequencers, FX, etc. I will have no choice but to re incorporate my hardware. Either way, SFP has proven to me that hardware is replacable, whether or not they finish the great job they started by doing this is up to them. I do dream, and pray for their sucess, and have already sent money for Solaris as I believe it is an incredible start for a company getting back on it's feet. I have the B2003 sounding so awesome through a rotary cabinet, that I would have to buy a Hammond again just to keep that sound alive.

we had this 2 years ago at a concert out in the gardens of a music school, when cubase crashed minutes before start of the performance, and the master of ceremony somehow forgot to rewire everything (this was the first event to try out the new firewire mixer). but I had my MiniDisc recorder with me, and this saved the day...scope4live wrote:Notice the glare in Frank's eyes when Dean informed him that Cubase crashed during the last take !!

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

since I was up and running with the press of a single button and almost no possibility to forget about anything, it was at least the more reliable solution. (my mate has a tascam portable recorder for that purpose now, but it's much bigger and heavier, and uh, pricey...stardust wrote:So HW is the better thing

I used my first sequencer ( real time ) in '84, and synced to ADAT's when they were released, and did have some problems when Alesis first released them with the BRC not seeing the ID's at first. But this was in a recording scenario where mishaps are tolerated, live has to be 100% stability.
My hardware sequencers ran vocal FX, and symphonic string parts, or horn section stuff, and even bass synth since most bassists would have a bass guitar only. And using a JL Cooper MIDI Dimmer box for lights as well.
Over a period of 20 years w/o one failure ! So when I pay several hundred dollars for something, if it doesn't work, I don't want to know why and struggle with it, as my patience for performance as well as players is rather short. I can't even get these apps to playback MIDI tracks w/o some kind of shortcut or hassle. Since I have several hardware sequencers still, I just grabbed one and suprise, suprise, instant gratification.
This weelend I am learning VDAT, and will hopefully record MIDI tracks into the QX-1, and use it to trigger Scope and hardware synths into VDAT. I will dump these into a single stereo track of Cubase 4, and hopefully get to enjoy some of my stuff w/o wanting to smash something out of anger.
I Tend To Lose My Dynamics When I'm Mad, Like A Drummer's Cymbal Sounds When His Girl Dances In Front Of Him With Some Dude While He's Playing.
So Hardware It Is Then. Besides VDAT sounds better, and so does my 24/96 for that matter.

Scope won't be going native, I can assure you that!nightscope wrote: If Scope goes native then I guess the downside will be a lot worse sound being generated. ns
