The jump to Cubase 4

Post by Crickstone »

i've been using and am quite happy with stability etc. SX 2 and VDAT for some things. Is it worth the jump to Cubase 4.? Is the audio engine better, or is it time to forget it all and look at Reaper or Samplitude? Things are rock solid with Scope as it is, but we all have doubts about what we have don't we?

I would make sure to keep an image of the last working set up.

I have had zero tolerance and luck with C4. I am confident GaryB will fix this when he comes next time ( Van Halen in Dec.? ).

But my constant freezing of MIDI tracks as they playback infuriates me, and even though GaryB installed a new patch, the same story again.

One good thing though, I dug in my trunk and found a hardware sequencer of yore that I never used, but started reading the manual and found out I could use the KS88's transport controls to start and stop, as well as switch scenes.

@ any rate I threw 5 songs together the first night all tracks including Larry Seyers awesome drum libraries. Much faster than being frustrated with this VST jive. That's what I am used to. I would like to know how you like VDAT, and could I use it to dump my audio to while my reliable, fast hardware sequencer plays back it's MIDI tracks? I heard a live 24 channel mix of my group using VDAT a few years ago and thought that it's sound was incredibly detailed. I liked it's sound better than the drummers Sequencer app Logic. That was the PC version then, maybe Mac got it to sound less canned. But I would like to dump it to VDAT and then post some tunes here somehow. Is this possible? If so, I must warn you I might pester you a little bit 4 help.

Cubase 4 is now at 4.03 - C4.1 should be released this year
Since Cubase 4.02, i have not regretet upgrading to C4.

Now it works mostly as i want :-) and i even have to switch it off by my own will.

Compared to SX3 i say:
VSTi - improved instruments
VST - multichannel effects - this start to get exciting
