Scope Synths Go Psychedelic

I was scared to death by this little Joss Stone / Janis Joplin style singer from Tahoe last year. She is a real singer. Not some fine babe with a so-so voice, but extremely talented, and has the look as well, i.e., the patched jeans, VW Van w/ flowers, etc. They do a J.Joplin tribute show that is a spittin' image of her and Big Brotha' & The Holding Company. They asked me to do a private function for the Bay Area Doctors Association and I agreed, as it is for a 1000 USD for one night, all expenses paid. Doctors really don't throw boring parties, as they have agreed to fly, feed, house, and even build a stage w/ risers like the Ed Sullivan show use to do.
@ Any rate I have convinced them to expand their repertoire @ a recent rehearsal and add the Animals, the Doors, Hendrix, and all of my favorite Psychedelic groups from the 60's, and '70's. But with a small twist. NEW SOUNDS !!
I have asked the bassist to play percussion, and acoustic guitar on all songs that have the original keyboard bass parts. It's nice when people listen to all ideas. So I have made a patch for the Doors that just is incredible and has added more psychedelic tones than they had in the '60's. I use Sharks C4T for that great mono filter rising swept mod bass, and layer ProWave under that. On the keys ( Gibson Organ ) I made a preset from my morphing saws Flexor III arsenal that sounds just like the same organ, but with the tempo delay, which layers over the ProWave as well. With Celmos Pro Vintage Delay, and SpaceF's bb-Synth FX w/ the SSB Modulator attached, it sweeps the C4T bass, and the FIII organ emulation so nicely. This sound is very new and fresh sounding, especially for this style of music, and the Doctors will surely be reaching in their kits for some hallucinogenics when they hear this shit.
The Joplin stuff sounds great as I add the B3, and horns to an already great sounding group. But now we have Hendrix backward solos, and whammy bar delights using C4T / FIII combos. Assaf made a patch that emulates feedback from a guitar, and I mix this with my C4T / Steve Vai Giga samples and then reverse loop them at times too. I know this is just a cover band, but it sounds awesome, and I intend to give the doctors their moneys worth. Vegas is just ripe for this band, and with any luck I will convince them to do some gigs where I still have some juice with the Entertainment directors. If I can get these guys to add some Yes and ELP, we will be begging for time off.
I never thought I would enjoy doing covers so much, and with this girls voice I plan on begging for time off.
DJ's are getting to use the best gear, and play the best gigs here because bands are so lame, and don't try to sound their best, as they can work all year 6 nights a week and never reherse. I envision taking those gigs by hard work and rehersals even if it is only cover tunes. It's the best cover band I ever heard, and can't wait to record our gig in San Francisco next month. I shall use this engagement to make a great video for demos, and the audio will be recorded by my buddy with his console and 24 track Otari. He thinks he is getting some trim, so he will do it for free.
Sorry for my ranting but after I made these sounds today I became very inspired again, as my studio gig is nearing an end, I am elated. It sucks major hind tit, only four songs of mine are being used, and the songs the producer has chosen I am forced to play and arrange. They suck. I hope to get this group going strong, and have alot of fun watching people of all ages dance and carry on. That's what makes my gig fun, not the money, but that will be a bonus. You have got to hear this girl sing !! She is awesome, you know I'm not lying, as I have expressed my feelings towards singers. I usually hate to hear singers, this is different.
