I was scared to death by this little Joss Stone / Janis Joplin style singer from Tahoe last year. She is a real singer. Not some fine babe with a so-so voice, but extremely talented, and has the look as well, i.e., the patched jeans, VW Van w/ flowers, etc. They do a J.Joplin tribute show that is a spittin' image of her and Big Brotha' & The Holding Company. They asked me to do a private function for the Bay Area Doctors Association and I agreed, as it is for a 1000 USD for one night, all expenses paid. Doctors really don't throw boring parties, as they have agreed to fly, feed, house, and even build a stage w/ risers like the Ed Sullivan show use to do.
@ Any rate I have convinced them to expand their repertoire @ a recent rehearsal and add the Animals, the Doors, Hendrix, and all of my favorite Psychedelic groups from the 60's, and '70's. But with a small twist. NEW SOUNDS !!
I have asked the bassist to play percussion, and acoustic guitar on all songs that have the original keyboard bass parts. It's nice when people listen to all ideas. So I have made a patch for the Doors that just is incredible and has added more psychedelic tones than they had in the '60's. I use Sharks C4T for that great mono filter rising swept mod bass, and layer ProWave under that. On the keys ( Gibson Organ ) I made a preset from my morphing saws Flexor III arsenal that sounds just like the same organ, but with the tempo delay, which layers over the ProWave as well. With Celmos Pro Vintage Delay, and SpaceF's bb-Synth FX w/ the SSB Modulator attached, it sweeps the C4T bass, and the FIII organ emulation so nicely. This sound is very new and fresh sounding, especially for this style of music, and the Doctors will surely be reaching in their kits for some hallucinogenics when they hear this shit.
The Joplin stuff sounds great as I add the B3, and horns to an already great sounding group. But now we have Hendrix backward solos, and whammy bar delights using C4T / FIII combos. Assaf made a patch that emulates feedback from a guitar, and I mix this with my C4T / Steve Vai Giga samples and then reverse loop them at times too. I know this is just a cover band, but it sounds awesome, and I intend to give the doctors their moneys worth. Vegas is just ripe for this band, and with any luck I will convince them to do some gigs where I still have some juice with the Entertainment directors. If I can get these guys to add some Yes and ELP, we will be begging for time off.
I never thought I would enjoy doing covers so much, and with this girls voice I plan on begging for time off.
DJ's are getting to use the best gear, and play the best gigs here because bands are so lame, and don't try to sound their best, as they can work all year 6 nights a week and never reherse. I envision taking those gigs by hard work and rehersals even if it is only cover tunes. It's the best cover band I ever heard, and can't wait to record our gig in San Francisco next month. I shall use this engagement to make a great video for demos, and the audio will be recorded by my buddy with his console and 24 track Otari. He thinks he is getting some trim, so he will do it for free.
Sorry for my ranting but after I made these sounds today I became very inspired again, as my studio gig is nearing an end, I am elated. It sucks major hind tit, only four songs of mine are being used, and the songs the producer has chosen I am forced to play and arrange. They suck. I hope to get this group going strong, and have alot of fun watching people of all ages dance and carry on. That's what makes my gig fun, not the money, but that will be a bonus. You have got to hear this girl sing !! She is awesome, you know I'm not lying, as I have expressed my feelings towards singers. I usually hate to hear singers, this is different.

As a matter of fact I have installed Sonar 6.0 yesterday and will be recording or trying to Friday, all day and night.
So if I get stuck check out the problems thread, as I am sure I will be spending some time there for the next few years.
I am way tired and frustrasted with Cubase4, I will never buy anything from that overbloated company again. Customer service is non exsistant and they can suck my ass. I now use Cubase 4 for my chilled Jager glasses.
If Sonar gives me the least bit of trouble, it shall meet the same end as well.
I am an old hardware guy trying to stay in his saddle, that's all.
The gig in San Francisco will be video'd, and recorded. Hell the stage is full of risers and hopefully some bi-sexual, frustrated female doctors too. But this is a perfect oppurtunity to make a demo w/ a live audience. I won't pass that up. It will be like the Ed Sullivan Show, or American Bandstand. Whoever requests the Beach Boys will be shot on sight, and fans of the Monkees will be punished severly.
As one of my childhood idols once said,...................................So for you I shall split the Earth,....and you'll neve hear surf music again.............................................Jimi Hendrix Experience 3rd Stone From The Sun.

Yeah, Tis' True,
But at least the quirk I know in Scope is minor compared to Cubase's constant freezing when I play back MIDI tracks. Scope always wants to save my projects in SpaceF's back up preset folder, or in the presets, as I always save while I work. That is a quirk. But freezing, and having to lose data is a high crime to me. I wish I could release products like cell phones, and sequencers where the customers buy an unrefined product, and when seeking help are told it's the Scope app, and vice versa. I still have my Alesis HD 24.96, and 2 x hardware sequencers just in case. But my eyes are so tired of small LCD's after 23 years of squinting, and syncing to tape just to record horns and vocals. So I shall try again with Sonar.
Hopefully it will at least play back MIDI tracks w/o choking. If not, I might get into this business somehow and create a hardware sequencer with it's own O.S. and knock these overbloated apps off of their pedastals. I am all for a dedicated device, with it's own reduced instruction set. No one to blame there. Besides, don't we all have a fondness for touching real hardware? That's why Solaris will rule the roost once it's released. I don't even consider Scope DAW to be virtual anymore, as they work flawlessly 24/7 , and when attached to a real physical control surface, they work just like they are suppose to.
I am sending Steinberg a Christmas present, a small box filled with hand picked excrement, from a real dog that hunts !!! That's what I think of their customer service, and product. At least I have a nice 400 dollar coaster for my chilled Jagers.

I was going to buy Ableton Live, cause I liked it's name. It's my cousin who made it, ......Ableton.
Please stay seated.
I will try this app and see, bur I have been hearing Ableton w/ Kyma for the last two years, and that worked very well w/ the DJ I worked with for 6 months. God I miss that job, but the owners were caught up in an organized crime sting, causing it's most famous, and beautiful members ( private ) to stop coming. It was 5000 USD to join, and then monthly fees as well. I never saw so many celebs in my life, and fine trim as well. At any rate he used it to time strecth, and host some DJ app w/ Kyma, and it was cutting edge high tech stuff. It never crashed once, either did Scope, as I played along with his D & B tracks. All I did was comp and solo all night long, and one week I didn't recireve my pay ( cash ), and so when the second week went by and the " famous " DJ didn't pay I went to management. Once I saw their guns and stacks of cash laying around I figured they shorted the DJ, and he screwed me, so Asta La Vista Baby. But his rig was awesome, the best I ever saw for a DJ.
If Sonar jacks me off I will just follow the advice of my brethren here. Customer service is vital, and I am spoiled by DAS, Bowen, SpaceF, as well as Creamware customer service ( Us !!, and the Z ).. I am tired of developers releasing products and using it's buyers as guinnea pigs, and free Beta testers. This is unacceptable, and I don't care what company made it, if they don't respond to my emails, I shall shit on their name in every forum I frequent, and will always use them as an example of piss poor customer care.
Thank You My Brothas,

Ableton is pretty pretty cool, but I am still not using it
Maybe someday.....
What I totally love is the ability to "strech out" the sequences you make, and its very easy to change "start/end" points. Other cool things are "launch behaviour". You can choose which clip (pattern/sequence) should be played after the current is finished.... stuff like that can make arranging very intuitive!!
I am still wondering if it would be better to export all my loops from FL Studio and do final arrangement in Ableton...........
