More DSP's soon!!

Post by FrancisHarmany »

woowoow! Cant wait. Soon I will have my first scope card. Some money related things have to be delt with first, but then its finally gonna happen!

It will be great to add 15 more DSP's :P I can finally set things up as I want, nice flexor3 filters & delays for all channels hmmm!!!! well I will have to put one pulsar1 card in another machine, maybe I'll use it for recording or something.

still, 11 more DSPs means I can basicly use all the SFX & mastering tools I need! Just set up my "Standard" project with all midi controllers assigned to the mixer/effect functions and off we go, doing all the final mixing live :)

That will be some trip :] The big problem is that I will probably get another scope card on the end of this year! I am slowly becomming one of those 45DSP bastards we all hate so much ;)

Peace!

Yes what would be the ideal live mixing setup ?

Currently I use 8 Asio channels which mix down to 4 channels/busses! Its cool cause that way I can do pre/post bus mixing aux effects which gives interesting results sometimes.

I want a good set of filters on the final 4 busses. I use PSYq on most which is just brilliant for the kick drum, it gets so full and warm. The output off the busses get VP08 & Tube warmers. When I have the new cards probably some Flexor saturation devices also.

I like the drive button on softclip also, I usually have that on my "vst synth" track.

I am still missing stereo aux tho, I dont understand why its mono in all the mixers.

hehe, you missed the ironical mode...as I thought it was more suited for the Ot forum.

about stereo send busses: analog real world gear sends were/are always mono...

I am one of those bastards as I have 10 cards, 9 in different machines.

I learned a few things along the way that aren't discussed much in our threads, but come from experience.

Type II cards are the best way to go with synths that use massive parameters and heavy polyphony. Type I cards are better suited for heavy FX, and mastering. I just replaced all of my Type I and SRB cards with Type II earlier this year and noticed the difference. When mixing the two together I thought the DSP's would be accessed by the Type II I/O's and latency, and would be O.K., but that's not the case as I was always getting the no connection from board 1 to board 2 pop up messages. So I have 2 x Type II DAW's, and a 3 x 15DSP Type I DP DAW. The Type I DP DAW works great for mixing and live FOH / Monortoring use. This box has the DAS custom mixer, and some old custom FX and synths of yore attached, and still runs Gigastudio 160 2.54 w/ GSIF 1.7 drivers !!! This box ran 24 / 7 for my last tour, and then 24 / 7 for 26 months with the Hussies w/ " O " crashes during pre production and live shows !! In ways it is more stable than hardware.

One other thing I noticed is there is no difference between 2 x 15's and 1 x 6, and 3 x 15's. the current limitations and architechture seem to top out at 36 DSP's total. I proved this during many swap outs.

The 2 x instances of Modular use Flexor III modified patches from Assaf, and Alfonso where I can access the transposition, channel, and volume controls. This is very important when working live, as improv rules. One never knows when tweaks are needed, at least I have instant access to vital components.

Hopefully this information might be of use to you.

Other than that, welcome to the FAT BASTARDS club.

SpaceF's MixSatC2 mixer has 2 stereo Aux channels (both insert slots and external sends/returns)
