I don't use my PlanetZ name here. But I have learned alot of tricks for mic'ing, and theory and composition as well. In it's ranks are jingle pros, documentary dwellers, and movie score moguls as well. Chuck Ainley drops in from time to time as well as Mike Post ( Law & Order, Starsky & Hutch, etc. ) Even a few SFP pros, but mostly Nuendo, SAW, Pro Tools, and Gamble guys. And way too many Mac / Intel whiners. Seems that the new brass engines are incompatible,........sorry to hear about it.
Live And Learn,....Enjoy.

Yeah, I'm there all the time. The reason I don't have a huge Scope system by now is because I'm saving for more RAM, processors, and other stuff for my Giga machines. I haven't seen any of the guys you mentioned, unless you know aliases that I don't, but I know some other dudes that check in.
Now I have to guess your username by your writing style. That shouldn't be hard.
Have you tried the WIVI Brass yet? I'm hoping to check it out this week.

Yall Suck My Ass !!
Good one Hubird. I will give you a hint. Here in the states, back when there were still Italian neighborhoods, etc. Everyone had a nickname. Since I played hockey for hours everyday, I had few teeth, as my father use to say, another one will grow in. Actually, my Godfather was also my dentist, and he was very tired of free dental work after several thousand dollars.
But if you were to convert my nickname, " Jimmy No Teeth ", into the Mexican version of Spanish, you could spot it quite easily. I just don't use the first name, but rather the No Teeth part. That's all I can say, as I am a member of the offchutes of this forum, and have made invaluable connections there. Especially one my friend and I hooked up with. He came to Vegas and put up 30,000 USD for all of our demo work. I was paid a handsome salary while these demos were being made. But the work paid off, and we have 150 commercials to do for Radio, and cable as well.
So I am very limited in what I say on the offchutes, but in the forums themselves, spotting me would not be difficult. Since it's only musically related, and there is little ' Off Topic " content, there are rarely disagreements, but mucho ass kissing, which is cool also.
A female composer who sent us her bio is coming next week from Venezuela, and her pictures, and personality seem too good to be true. We shall see, her husband is probably a Cartel member, and will have us whacked if we don't use her talents. Believe me, I always use the best side of a coin, especially former Miss Venezuela types. As long as I don't have to play that Girl with Emphysema bossa nova jive, we'll get along fine. But as soon as that cheezy shit is mentioned, I will receive a fictitious phone call to a 911 scenario, that way my partner can fall asleep listening to it.
BTW Synthetic, Early reflections is what I use Gigapulse for, and body resonant impulses. Then I use my Lexicon for livening up my stage ambience. Some stages have carpeting, some have wooden floors, some are dead from hanging props and ridiculously large curtains. So the reflections are my main sense of depth and distance, and the overall room will vary. Your posts there touch on that topic as it is something new, but I have done this for years live as every evening has a different sound according to what the stage is full of from the show folks.
I admit, I have been stalking you. But your contributions there are invaluable. So please don't be shy here. Many people are not noticing some of our recent members whose credentials are impressive. Most of the Scope / Giga guys are in hiding here, w/ the exception of Crickstone the Canuck.
I really appreciate the Vista update you guys made for us, thanks, but I doubt I will be using Vista until I see Sonic Core tilting in that direction. But still, I thank you guys for all of your work, and advise.
Later Alligator, After while Crocodile,

Hah, you should post over there too. We could use some more of your endearing cantankerousness.
The early reflections thing I was talking about (weird to have a conversation spanning two forums) came out of VSL samples. VSL records everything close miced, sitting right in front of you. So people use ER reverbs as a way to realistically pan those samples in a room. It's as much about the Haas effect as it is the room tone and depth. Then they slather a hall on top of everything. You can't do this yet in GigaPulse, but I'm trying.
The next thing from Giga will be a Mac version of GVI. Then look to the future for Giga 4...

BTW,
The presets you did for the Q20 while you were @ Alesis were diverse, and beautifully done. I bought it 4 it's ADAT I /O's not expecting it to be so fierce in quality. The gated plate, and large Halls were as good as the Lexicon PCM70 ( R.I.P. ), so I have had it since, but plan on mastering in Scope w/ a 91, and the Q20, I like it that much.
If you are working on Gigapulse, that's great. It is awesome, but a guy who knows effects the way you use them, would add more to an already warm sounding engine.
Thanks 4 the tip on the Brass engine,

I just listened to their demo of Zarathustra. You know the expression "You only get one chance to make a first impression"? If they think that making a demo that is badly articulated and drowned in reverb to impress the gallery is going to sell me their software they are badly mistaken...synthetic88 wrote:

I guess they are banking on the fact that 95% of the room is tone deaf (that includes the "musicians")...
Are we listening?..
I tend to agree. @ the v- forum, people there think it's great. I beg to differ, as the demo is bathed in verb. A good demo is to do it dry, then sparsely add your effects, and try to immatate a stage instead of these giant non existent halls.
I have been trying to get good brass, and reed samples since the Emulator II days. That's the problem when a keyboard player samples the horns I guess. Nick Phoenix did a good job with QL Brass, but then again all of the virtual conductors they seem to market towards, don't like section sounds as in Maynard, or Gil Evans, or Nelson Riddle. Those sounds can be had in Broadway Big Band from what I heard, but one must know the techniques of Orchestration also. Guys looping and remixing recorded horn loops have sounded better than most sample libraries to date. Check out Psychic Horns by Jason Miles. It's very effective for re mixers and loopers. He knows horns also, as he played with Mile Davis on the Amandla album, which still is one of the finest fusion recordings ever done, and that funk bass was to die for.
I played w/ many great soloists and sections, and can only add my libraries as a background filler to a small section. However, I have some nice brass and sax stuff that works, and an incredible muted solo patch ala Miles Davis, but sections are still lacking. Try the demos at Sonivox Paul, and tell me what you think. One must build his sections though as it is a monophonic library. I was suppose to get this for my BDay from WJ. It will be a belated gift next week I hope. Their sections sounds rather promising, and I am feverish, as this would pretty much complete my library, until I get bored again.
This sucker will cost 2 large, so it better be good. Then I can quit saying as a reply to my fellow players here in town,.......................................Jimmy, do you have a quality section library you use,...... No,......But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I don't know if they're famous, but one of the guys there wrote the "Bill Nye The Science Guy" song.
I want to get a new hardware reverb. I miss playing with those settings – it's like a synthesizer versus a sampler (convolution reverb). I've been close to pulling the trigger on a TC Reverb 4000 a few times. If only Lexicon would release a new PCM series this October... (wink, wink)

Don't waste your time, it is not the Lexicon we knew anymore, they are all at another company.
Didn't you just see the PCM90, and the PCM70 I sold in the purchasing threads?
I offed them for dirt cheap. I kept the PCM91, and the old 41 whichs needs repair, and is the best old looper for it's time.
I ain't selling the Q20 though. I can't find a better gated plate anywhere, so I guess the price was worth that one preset you made.
